Found out the P4-M defaults to 1.5v in desktop boards. I saw newegg selling an Athlon XP-M do they work in desktop boards?

Sounds great! But I'll bet it's not cheap either.... :( The Celeron 2.0 Northwood is probably more my price, and overclocked it would perform very well for everything I'm throwing at it.

I have a p4m 1.6 for sale...only $75...thats cheap.
pm me if you want it.

Just get either a Tualitin or Athlon XP 1700, the noise isn't gonna kill you, heck even the PSU fan will prolly be louder than your CPU FAN.

My Celeron-T 1.0A @ 1.33 runs stable at 1.25v (default 1.475, I?ve tested it as low as 1.20) on an Abit VH6T.

I have the retail fan turned down with a Zalman Fanmate1 to ~ 2800rpm where it is very quiet (stock 4300). Runs ~ 32/35C idle/load. I?ve estimated the power consumption at around 23-24watts.

There aren?t that many socket 370 m/b?s still available and many of the ones on Ebay may not have Tualatin support. NCIX has a Shuttle AV18E (with Tualatin support, Apollo pro 133A ) for $90CDN. It?s a pretty decent board. Fsb adjustable up to 166 in 1mhz increments and vcore is adjustable from 1.05-1.85 in the BIOS. The only downside to this board is that the only memory tweak is from cas3 to cas2. My VH6T has more memory tweaks which makes it slightly faster.

The Soyo TISU 815E is still available. $53 @ Mwave. Not sure where you can get it up north.

Thanks, Oldfart, but I'm looking to build a MICRO-ATX setup - which is why I'm so concerned about heat in the first place! :D

Ive just picked up a p4 1.4m from eb@y for £20 or about $40, although in a desktop it will default to 1.5v it should run 1.6ghz@ that speed and be very cool and a half decent performer. Alternateively I used a 1.0a celeron with a pep66 heatsink and no fan in my sv25.

T-Breds will do 1.4ghz at 1.3v, OC the front side bus on an n-force 2 setup to 200mhz (400ddr) and you've got a fast setup that only requiers a Panaflow+AX-7(you could probably get away with an even slower fan).

You can get a socket adapter to use a Tualatin on a non-Tualatin S370 motherboard. Search for the threads in Hot Deals. It's around $10-$14.
