Looking for Linux Distro

Hey all,

I am completely n00b at Linux. I want to try a flavor. I have looked at Mandrake and RedHat, not decided.

What do you think I should try?

Also, where can I get an ISO of Linux from an FTP with out a login?

Thanks as always boys and girls,
Bob😎

Try them both. You can download them from ftp.redhat.com, ftp.mandrake.com, linuxiso.org, planetmirror.com, but all ftp servers will require a login.

Both RedHat and Mandrake are good for newbies, since they are so widely used and there are tons of help avaliable on the internet...

Both of them are also very user friendly...

So in other words, you can't go wrong with either one...

I personally don't like red hat but dont let that stop you from trying it.
I use mandrake and so far am very happy with it.

mandrake redhat and suse seem to be the 3 big ones for beginners, they with mandrake and suse leading the way in useability. but if you really wanna dig in and learn linux, try out debian or slackware or linux from scratch. start off with an easier distro untill you somewhat get into the swing of things, then when you're ready, dive in 🙂. thats what i did and i am enjoying debian much more than redhat or windows. (especially the latter 😛)

I have Rehat, Mandrake and Suse, and I use Mandrake because its the only one that detected and used all my hardware correctly. Redhat got a kernel panic everytime I tryed to start it after installing it and Suse did weird stuff to the scsi controller on one of my computers. Mandrake comes with a bunch of extra crap I dont need but at least it works properly.
