looking for irc applet and conent management scripts

I've been searching for about an hour for an irc applet for my site. All the ones I've found either require a relay on the web server, are abandonded/not supported, or are commercial. I just need something that lets a user connect to a remote irc server from their browser window and is free for non-profit groups.

I'm also hoping that someone could recommend a set of perl or php scripts that would let me set up user accounts for a few people where they would be assigned a subdirectory on the site and could upload some images and html. Anyone used something like this? I'm not really looking for something as in-depth as nuke or postnuke.

The best IRC applet I know of is jIRC, but it's $50..

I also tried to find a decent free IRC applet for my own site, but couldn't find anything acceptable.

Yep, that's the only one that really looked tolerable to me. Unfortunately there is simply no money for that.
