Looking for info on walkie talkies.

My wife bought a pair of Motorola Talkabout T5320's and they're crap. We want them so we can keep in touch with our daughter as she's wandering hither and yon to her friends' houses. These things say they're good for up to 2 miles. That must mean if your living on the Great Plains with no obstructions. You get these things a block apart with a few houses in the way and there is no communications.

OK, my question. What are some pretty good ones, either Motorola, Cobra or something else. I think the ones my wife bought were $50-60 for the pair. I'm willing to put out $100-200 for some decent ones that will keep us in contact with our daughter. Naturally, the less expensive the better, but something cheap that doesn't work is a total waste. These will be used in a suburban environmet over about a 3 block area.

Thanks
