Hey there.

I bought the 32" TV talked about in this thread.

Link for Non Subscribers. *Tsk Tsk* :)

Anywho.......

The TV looks great when playing DVD's or XBOX in 1080i.

The problem is when I have my DirecTV system hooked up to it.

It looks like total garbage.

If youre old enough, imagine reagular antennas or cable from the early 80's. (Colors bleeding, Artifacting, Etc.)

I've tried the same DTV box with an old 20" and it works fine, so it's not the line or box.

I've also tried both Coax and Rca inputs.

It just looks horrible. Even with tweaking.

Did I just get a Lemon or is this the fancy "Digital Tuner" at work?

Another store has the 30" WS version for the same price so I need to know if I should try that one out or just go with another brand/model.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time.

Well, you're throwing crappy resolution at a high-resolution set. Does your DirecTV box have S-Video or Component Video outputs? That will help quite a bit over Composite Video.

But, think of it this way, your satellite feed is probably providing about 300 lines of resolution while that set is capable of much more than that. Take a 320x240 image and display it on a 19" computer monitor and it will look like crap. That's what you're seeing. The colors bleed are probably due to using Composite Video and not S-Video or Component. Give those a try and I bet you'll see an improvement.

And add to that the god-awful amounts of compression that D* applies to their signal.

Methinks you'll only be happy with an HD signal, now that you've seen the light...

Ok

ok

What about trading the 32 inch for the 30 inch widescreen??

Is that a no-brainer?

Also, please sell me a DirecTV HDTV tuner that I'm looking for in this thread. ;)

If you could, I'd swing for a 42" widescreen Rear Projection TV (RPTV) over a 30" direct-view set. Should be able to find one for about $1500 and you'll have a great image and a larger one at that!

As for the DirecTV receiver, I'm not up on their equipment but check out this review:
