Looking for help for a friend...Laptop graphics issue

Hi..my buddy just got himself an MSI gaming laptop with the Nvidia 670MX graphics card. The issue he is having is it seems that it never uses the graphics card, or it throttles the card, way way down whenever the laptop is unplugged.

He tried changing the power settings to maximum performance and changed the nvidia settings to always use the nvidia gpu, but it still doesn't seem to run well. He goes from getting 40-50 fps on Tomb Raider when plugged in, to 4 fps on battery.

Is there anyway to make it so the performance is the same plugged in or running on battery?

Thank you!

without seeing; I'm not sure ......... usually unplugged the battery can only provide so much juice which is always constantly lowering....

were the wall it constant. I'm guessing with that he gets about an hour off the wall? But setting the power on max should over ride what's happening and run things near max....

has he tried driver update for power features? Sounds like its ignore what he's set....

Most gaming laptops with a higher powered GPU simply aren't capable of running at full speed on battery.

I'm afraid this is what's happening...even by telling nvidia control panel to always use the GPU, it isn't running at full speed. I'm going to have him download GPU-Z or afterburner just to make sure, but it seems like it is just unable to draw enough from the battery.
