Like the title says I am looking for average/good/excellent first person shooter PC game recommendations. I just finished Dues Ex: Human Revolution and liked it. (Though the boss fights were lame.)

I like the sci-fi and/or zombie and/or alien mix though open to others as well.

A few years older is ok but not older than lets say 2005. :p

On sale and cheap is good as well.

If you want to say which game is your favorite and/or all time favorite and why, that would be great as well.

Thank You

Edit:

Just in case...when I say "first person shooter" I am refering to the game play where you "look" out of the players eyes and you "are" the character(s).

Someone suggested I say what other games I have played. Good point, sorry I forgot to do that.

I have played:
Unreal Tournament I (gold and GOTY editions)
Half-life I
doom (all)
quake 4 (plus prior versions)
FEAR series
Splinter Cell I
Dues Ex: Human Revolution
Dues Ex I (original)

Any one ever play that online Conan the Barbarian game? I heard good things about graphics.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. -- all 3 are worth playing. Simply one of the greatest FPS series in the history of life, IMO. Make sure to download "The Complete Mod" if you buy any game in the series.....the games can be a buggy mess without it.

Metro2033 -- One of the, if not THE best linear story-driven FPS ever. Just my opinion, of course, but I think it's a pretty brilliant game.

Crysis -- I love this game. Still looks fantastic with mods. One of the few FPS where it feels like you're directly connected to the movement of the character. Great mechanics and gunplay.

If you don't mind an effective lack of single-player: Left4Dead 2. Multiplayer is fun, but note on Versus you better know what you're doing. Most teams want at least a shot of winning and if you're an obvious noob you'll likely be kicked. Hell I know what I'm doing and I still get kicked every now and then because of one minor mistake. Good news is there are plenty of active servers so you can eventually find one that's reasonable.

There is single-player, but it's just multiplayer campagin with bots.

This...minus Crysis

The Source games are all good (Half Life, Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Counterstrike, Left 4 Dead 1/Left 4 Dead 2)

If by FPS you also include over the shoulder, try the Mass Effect series as well

Also the new Fallouts

Borderlands 1 and Saints Row 3 should both have cheap GOTY/complete versions if you wait for a Steam sale. You do want the DLC for both. For Sr3 you can get by with just the season pass DLC.

Saint's Row 3 - goofy fun, good story and sense of humor. I played it for about 20 hours even though I'm not much of a sandbox game person.

Borderlands 1 - "Diablo with guns" or as Gaige from BL2 would say "Loot loot loot". It's fun solo but I've heard it's also fun co-op (never got around to trying that). I put in over 100 hours playing the different classes.

I know many people hate the series now, but Call of Duty 1 or 2 or COD4 Modern Warfare were good games IMO. After COD4 though, the series just became one derivative sequel after another.

I would also suggest Fear 1 and the Half Life series. Borderlands 1 was great, and I am currently playing BL2 and enjoying it, but it is not really a serious shooter, more of a humorous sci-fi shooter.

+1. Good choices.

You should mention the ones you've played before other than Deus Ex: HR, surely there's more.

Anyway, usual recommendations - in no particular order of popularity - (and regardless of naysayers) would be along the lines of:

º Half-Life series (at least Black Mesa: Source, HL2 + both Episodes)
º STALKER series (at least the original, if not go with Call of Pripyat)
º Crysis series (the first isn't bad, expansion Warhead is more action-oriented)
º DOOM series (DOOM 3 and/or expansion Resurrection of Evil)
º Bioshock 1 & 2 (especially the first)
º FEAR series (the original is the best in my opinion)
º Quake series (at least Quake IV if anything, it wasn't bad)
º Portal 1 & 2 (not shooters, but first-person puzzle, the second one is great)
º Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 (multi-player focused, the original is better in my opinion)
º Team Fortress 2 (I don't think I have to describe this)
º Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (I haven't played nor own BF3, but BC2 is/was cool)
º Call of Duty (specifically, the original, it was good)
º Borderlands 2 (don't bother with the original, go with the second)
º Far Cry (the original was good, and still is today in my opinion)
º Prey (I liked it overall, kinda sleeper hit style FPS, underrated)
º Dark Messiah of Might & Magic (same as above)
º Painkiller (the original, mindless DOOM-style shooting action)
º Mirror's Edge (I never played it, but I see it being recommended often enough)
º Metro 2033 (same as above, but supposedly very taxing on almost all systems)
º RAGE (mixed bag of feelings about that one, I have yet to complete it)
º Star Wars: Republic Commando (jewel, never forget, damn that was good back then)

And... many more of course but this list should help a bit.

Zenoth's list should keep you busy for a while and its full of great games.
Black Mesa Source and HL2 + EP's
FEAR 1
Far Cry/Crysis/Warhead
Painkiller
COD1/4

Those are all great games and as mentioned before Metro 2033 and the STALKER series come highly recommended although I have yet to play them myself. (damn backlog is too big :p)

I love Mirror's Edge, but I wouldn't call it an FPS. More like a first-person adventure/puzzle game, with a few sequences where you may need to shoot a few people......to get them out of the way so you can keep running. ;)

I really wish DICE would release a sequel to this game.....it would be ridiculously good in Frostbyte2.

Yea, forgot about Republic Commando. Really fun game. Also the Battlefront I and II, although I got stuck on one area of Battlefront II and never finished it.

I have not tried but Metro 2033 is good I hear. I'm not too big into monster games. I'm currently playing Future soldier although that is more third person. Medal of Honor Warfighter looks great too.

Left 4 Dead series
STALKER
Metro2033
Skyrim
Fallout new vegas
Serious Sam 3

You have 2 months until the Steam holiday sale, which runs from the middle of December until something like January 3rd.

If you want to buy some games, get something to tide you over, then buy some packages during the holiday sale.

What kind of FPS gaming are you looking for? Online multiplayer or single player?

Single player prefered but other suggestions are fine as well.

Glad steam will be having a sale soon. The only thing better than a new video game is one you got for 75% off.

Hard Reset.

Check out the demo on Steam. It's a sci-fi FPS with a cyber-punk theme. The story is kind of weak (you=cop bad guys are robots trying to destroy humans), but the atmosphere is awesome. The bosses are challenging. Good game and you can usually get it cheap during a Steam sale.

Some good suggestions.

If you are at all into star trek (I wasn't when I played it) try star trek elite force. It had a really good story and atmosphere.

Cod 1-4 are good options as are the entire half life series.
