I'm looking for a good piece of backup software. I want something that I can use to schedule a backup of certain folders. Free would be nice but I'd don't mind supporting good software.

Thanks.

Second Copy® 2000 is the perfect backup product designed for Windows 9x/Me/NT4/2000/XP you have been looking for. It makes a backup of your data files to another directory, disk or computer across the network. It then monitors the source files and keeps the backup updated with new or changed files. It runs in the background with no user interaction. So, once it is setup you always have a backup of your data some where else.

I have a quick question about this software. It sounds nice that it automatically backsup. But what if I did something to the original file that I didn't want done. Won't the program update the backup and then that file would be damage too!

I've been using Second Copy for over a year now. You can tell the program how many recent copies to keep. I've got mine set for five, so if the last one is bad, I have four older ones to restore from.

Save the following as a batch file, and set scheduler to run it 15-30 minutes after the Second Copy backup. I find it perfect for taking compressed copies by date. At ~50Mb each backup, I find I can get 2 weeks on a CD-R.

Hi Everyone,
Hope you don't mind me jumping in here but I have a couple of questions if you don't mind?

I had to format my HDD since the WinXP-restore function failed me again so my question how do you use the backup software if your computer crashes?

please excuse my dumb question but I have become a little jaded on this subject since the restore function has failed me.

Also, I had "GoBack" even fail me one time so I don't even bother with that anymore, although it did save me more then it failed me.

And how much of a footprint does it require, not that it matters, just wondering?

TIA,
CA

You can configure second copy to keep X previous copies of a file. So if you do a backup of the files daily and you have X set to 4, you'll have the current file and 4 copies one from each previous day (but only if the file has changed, if it hasn't you won't waste space with the extra copies)

Now if you don't notice that something bad happened to the original file for 5 days, your back in trouble.

Would you use Second Copy® 2000 to make an image/copy of your OS? the reason that I ask is I just read some of the Q/A over on its web-site and I got that impression.

No. It can only copy files which are not in use, it's not an imaging solution.
