I want to setup a small private forum for I estimate 10 to 20 people. I have close to zero html experience. I want to keep them private simply to avoid spam bots.
Any suggestions?

@ViviTheMage is this something you sell?

^^^ That all assumes you have a domain name, webhosting account and SQL access.

If not, there are still alternatives, but they have ads.

I’m not against paying *some* money, I simple want to keep it month to month because there is a large chance this idea will fail since all below have failed:
email
sms/text becomes too disturbing
Facebook private group
WhatsApp, wha I don’t like FB, I can’t load it on my work device and so on
Some other messaging app, wha I’m not loading an app
Calendy see above

I might be able to set up an SMF for you to test.

Everybody that wants to use it would need to register (create account) though.

just make your own subreddit. It takes, what, 30 seconds. And provides you with 90% of the functionality you need.

Does YaBB still exist?

I think they are now SMF.

Years ago I actually started coding my own, ended up using it as my college TR project, but there was still a lot of work to do on it before I felt it was production worthy then I kinda got side tracked and never finished it. It does not help that I did not know about the concept of OOP or code indentation back then, the code was quite brutal. It's a miracle I got an A for that thing.

Can the displayed username be custom for a privates subreddit?
As in can the name be changed to real life first name for that subreddit?
