Looking for final silent mods

Right now I have an Enermax 465P-VE PSU, 4 80mm Panaflow L1As, 1 Coolermaster LED something or other (rated at 25 dbA), a Zalman CNPS 7000-Cu, a Seagate Barracuda V, and an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro.


So far I've set the Zalman to the minimum fan setting, and I disconnected the stupid noisy fan that came with the 9500 Pro. My Coolermaster is a side fan that blows air right onto the video card, so I don't think I'll have any concerns with having that fan disconnected (it blows a good amount of air too).


My system is pretty quiet now but I'd still like to try turning it down a notch. I was wondering if there is any way to mod my PSU because I think that it is generating the most noise now. The PSU comes with a rear 80mm exhaust fan and a bottom 92mm intake fan that switches on when the temperature becomes too high (I live in Phx Az, and the ambient temp of my room is usually in the 90F range). Should I try replacing either one of these fans? (I'm not willing to switch to another PSU, I love the one I have). Is there anything else I can do to try and reduce noise? Thanks for any suggestions.
 
I have removed the fans from the a couple of my PSUs and replace them with quieter ones. Of course this will void the warranty and make sure you use common sense but its very practical. This is prett ymuch the only option if you after the fan brushings go. It really helps.
 
You could also get a PS that's made to be silent. Zalman makes one, I think there are a few others.

You could try decoupling the PSU from the case a bit; mount it with grommets and bolts instead of the screws. You can pick up 4 grommets at Home Depot for about a buck and a half. The vibrations the psu sends into the case are a lot noisier than you might expect.

Another slightly more expensive product is available from Directron here.

You could also decouple your case fans with gromets, Directron has the fancy silica washers for most fan sizes also, but I think grommets are sufficient. You specified your PSU as the biggest problem anyway.

I find it quite comfortable actually. I don't think my PC likes it as much as I do though 😀
