I am in need of an external USB/FireWire hard drive. I want to either get a full external drive or a standard enclosure that I can use with any ATA hard drive.
What I have been looking at are the Maxtor 200 and 250 GB drives for $250 at Best Buy and 210 shipped from newegg respectively. The 250 GB is cheaper but the 200 I can exchange at any time if it brakes.
Anybody know if these drives are regular ATA or SATA drives in enclosures that can be separated or if it is a permanently attached drive? I only need an external for a short time so when I am done I plan on putting the larger drive in my system and one of my smaller drives in the external enclosure.
Also, if I can buy a good enclosure and then buy any regular hard drive for it for less then that would be my best choice.
Thanks
