Looking for DVD editing and creation software?

I bought a NEC 2510A OEM so I don't have any software. I am looking for some software that I can use to extract a DVD partially or fully, be able to edit the video and burn it back to DVD.

I don't care about copyright stuff as this is for personal DVDs.

And obviously I want it to be free or at least as cheap as possible. Something like downloading the NEC retail software if possible.

Thanks

Well I use Ulead's DVD Movie factory 2.5 SE
Very good and easy to use program. It also allows you to burn your created projects.

Thanks Jim1976, Ulead seems good. Do you know if it can extract video directly from DVD or if it to be extracted to the HD MPEG 2 first. Anyway, the full version is $100 which is not something I want to spend just yet as I don't plan on doing serious editing.

I searched and I don't think I have seen a post like this. Most involve backing up or extracting. I just want some simple editing that would not care that the source is DVD.

Thanks

If you have a ripped DVD or a normal mpeg file to burn it onto a DVD it needs to be converted to DVD compliant mpeg-2 and then authored. www.dvdrhelp.com is a great resource for pretty much everything having to do with creating, editing, and converting all types of video files. It also has a large index of tools and descriptions of what each one does.

I haven't tried it to be honest, but I think you'll need to convert it first to mpeg2 with a program. Not 100% sure though, since I use it just to create and edit captured videos.

You know my version came with my Leadtek Winfast TV200 tv tuner along with other program from Ulead. Great deal.

Bump for this topic. I recentyl converted all my old home movies to DVD via a standalone DVD recorder and could now use some advice on how to (or what format to) convert the DVD video BACK to an editable format for editing on my PC.
