Looking for comments on my HTPC build

Will be used to play bluray / hd dvd discs. Dual boot between Vista and Linux. Former for Media Center / PowerDVD - mainly for HD disc playback. Linux for XBMC for xvid / mkv video playback along with other multimedia functions. PC will only be used as an htpc. There will be no gaming of any kind.

Can anyone comment on whether any of this is overkill? Or any specific thing I should be concerned about?

I've read about issues with the Shuttle and HD disc playback but I see it works for some and others have issues but hopefully I'll be in the former group

Budget is $1,000
Hoping to buy parts within the next couple of weeks
The only thing that I'll stick with is the case and the psu replacement but everything else can change (doesn't matter the brand as long as it isn't a crap one either)
Parts should be all from the US

Case: Shuttle SG33G5M-Deluxe - $419
PSU Replacement: PC 62 (No Fan External PSU) - $100

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz LGA 775 65W - $124.99
RAM: mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 - $53.99
HD: Western Digital Caviar GP WD10EACS 1TB - $169
LG Bluray HD DVD combo - $130

Total - $996.98

Way overpriced on the RAM. You could get 4GB of quality RAM for only about $10 more. For 2GB of RAM you should absolutely not be spending more than $35-40, and there are some kits going for around $20 after rebate even.

To utilize the full 4GB you will have to install the 64 bit versions of your operating systems. Just an FYI.

Yeah, thekub I'm aware of that. I don't think I'll need 4gb though.

DSF, looks like there are some good options there. Can save 20-30 after rebate. Thanks!

Why such an expensive case? I'm not to familiar with shuttle cases, but you could buy a antec solo with a nice quiet SeaSonic S12 II SS-330w PSU. I'd drop the e7200, and I would in fact go with AMD on this one, with a 780g mobo, the IGP is fast enough to decode anything you throw at it. Pair it with this CPU and you're good to go: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16819103256

MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128090

You'd need a TV tuner card as well if you want it to display television content as well, or would want to store TV content. Something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16815116007

This would be lots cheaper. $170 for 1tb ain't bad. You could probably be done for $500-600.

Well the case comes with a board though I realize that it's still expensive regardless. I'm probably paying twice as much that I normally would have for the small form factor. The case would fit into my home theater area just fine and i like having wifi / bluetooth builtin. the lcd front and built in IR as well. plus i can switch out the psu with a no fan silent option that shuttle sells.
