OK, a client has a Trimble GPS ($4k one of some ilk that has WinCE), will have paper maps and a digitizer.
He takes soil surverys. He needs the maps to have elevation lines, and for him to be able to put in longitude and latitude. He then basically bores and takes soil samples, and must mark them out on the map, and draw lines around the place.
What software, and/or how should I look for software, that will take in the GPS data, be able to import the maps (I have no clue about how a digitizer actually works), and allow him to draw his stuff? All 2d, BTW.
He is not too familiar with computers in general, and is only now jumping into doing it this way, so he is as clueless as anyone as to the best way and best software to do it. Cost isn't a major factor. The software chosen in the end will decide whether he gets a P4C 3GHz, Athlon 3200+, or dual Athlons, so if you know of proper software and it's performance on given systems, that's a plus as well.
TIA
Edit: Got the software figured out. Turns out AutoCAD has a suite perfectly suited for this.
