Looking for Best PSU

Building a superior machine for a friend that's willing to spend money. What's are some of the top of the line power supplies (I'm looking at OCZ and Antec, anything specific within those companies?).

A quick recommendation would be the OCZ 520W Powerstream. I'd also look at PC Power & Cooling products, they're also highly recommended.

There is a topic on some good PSUs. And if its superior I'm assuming SLI, so look at the SLI recommended products.

With these higher watt P/S's (500+ Watts), do you have to begin thinking about buying a case that supports better air flow due to the a greater amount of heat being produced?

The supplies will only produce as much power as needed, plus losses from efficiency, so they won't necessarily produce any more heat unless they are under heavy load. Since most computers get by on far less than 400w they should not produce any more heat than an equally efficient 400w supply, however these supplies do have a lot of overhead for extra hard drives, dual video cards etc.

Heat from the PSU shouldn't matter. All of these higher-end PSUs will utilize a mobo fan header to regulate PSU fan speed, and even a really crappy case would provide just enough air flow for the heat to be expelled out the rear.

Air flow concerns should be centered around the videocard and CPU (and in some cases, the hard drives).

definately the PCP&P 850w. it will cost like $500. are you getting like dual 7800's and an fx-57, and some vapochill lighspeeds for every chip that exists in the entire computer? 😛

Yeah... you can spend like $800 on a rediculous PSU, but you probably don't need that.

Spec the rest of the system out, first, and then buy an appropriate, high-quality PSU.

PCP&C is the best, period. Even a 300-350W PCP&C will outperform an Antec or Enermax rated more than 100 watts higher. This is because their rating is valid for a much wider (and more realistic) temperature range.
