I'm looking for the best bang for the buck heatsink/fan combo for an athlon XP 1900+... I am NOT overclocking and my main concern is noise.. I want it to be as quiet as possible while still doing a decent cooling job.. As long as the chip doesnt overheat at stock speeds I'm fine with that.

Thanks for any advice

The Zalman CNPS6000 would be a good bet and it'll be quieter than my other recommendation which is the ThermalTake Silent Boost solution.

Is this a 1900+ T-bred or the those older Palominos? Well if it is a t-bred 1900+, I suggest you get the SVC GC68 from here. It is a great heatsink if you are not overclocking. The including fan is rated at 28 dBa, so if you want really quiet stuff, go get this replacement fan. If its a palomino, this combo should still be good enough for it.

You shoulda jumped on the 19.99 SLK-900 deal and got a 92mm pabst fan. This is whisper soft and will provide far more cooling than you'll need.

i did get that thermalright skl-900a and went from 51C max temps to 39C....i chose a 92mm green UV fan for cooling and have it stuck at 39-40 at only 2100 RPM

OK I do have to confess: i am running only a 1.0Gz Athlon unclocked...but while i was replacing the HS and FAN i went ahead and penciled the L1 bridges and now it will not stay at 1.0 for long.

Sheesh, no matter the price, any thermalright, especially the SLK series is way overkill for a stock 1900+.

The GC68 is good. Also the Speeze (also called Spire) Whisper Rock or Falcon Rock II. Basically the same thing as a GC68, with a small copper plug. They are both cheap and come with decently quiet fans, quieter than the ones that come on teh GC68.

Zalman is great, but a bit more expensive.

I run a Falcon Rock II on a 1700+ at 1840Mhz (2100+). Temps stay around 40 idle, high 40's Prime 95. This in a case with a single 120mm fan at 5V.

If not overclocking, then definately the $5. SVC GC-68. In fact I think its on sale for $3.99 right now.

I agree. This is undisputed BANG FOR THE BUCK. Nothing else could beat it. Where else you could get a heatsink and an 80mm fan for $4 ?
The heatsink is very solid though. I installed it into 2 XP-1500+ in my friends's systems last year. As with any AMD CPU, make sure your case has good air flow.

you shoulda gotten the retail cpu, that extra 5 dollars is the best heatsink you'll get for the money.
