About 8 months ago, someone posted a link to an article about modding a pre-TruPower Antec PSU to use a Panaflo fan to cut down the noise. I can't seem to find it - anyone got that or something similar in their bookmarks?

edit: clarified title

I remember the link you were talking about. However I do not remember it.

I can give a pointer on how to do it though being I did the mod.

All you have to do is take out the old fan, disconnect the wiring from the old fan inside the power supply.

Near where all the wires go out from the power supply (or anywhere you choose), drill a small hole that will allow the pig tail for the panaflo to enter/exit and plug it into either the 3 pin motherboard connector or a 4 hole connector that goes to one of your drives.

Total time roughly about 15 minutes of work providing you already have the power supply out.

Ahh yes... do not touch any of the coils inside the power supply. They hold thousands of volts of juice.

Hope that helps.

Either replace the existing fans with quieter ones (Panaflo L1 or Papsts) or modify the input power to supply 7V instead of the current 12V. BTW, this can be done to any power supply, not just Antec's.

...which is why I was actually looking for a guide rather than diving in willy-nilly like I usually would. ;)

Thanks for the tips.

There is a way to release all the electricity in the power supply before you work on it: unplug the power supply from the wall outlet, and attempt to turn your PC on. The fans should whirl for a second or two, and that should effectively remove the power from the PS. Still, take precautions and don't touch anything you don't need to. Simply open the casing, remove the fan, and snip the fan wires.

The reason why there is no popular how-to for this mod is because it is so simple. It just takes some common sense.
