Looking for an old motherboard?

The parts are trickling in for my new PC, and I'm trying to decide what to do with my old one (850, socket a, t-bird).

My first choice was to give it to my father. But his K6-2 (400 I think) really can last awhile longer. All he does is internet, solitare, and a little wordperfect, and 1-2-3 (he's a little dated).

The next choice was a HTPC, but an 850 really is too slow for PVR/DVR functions which would be the real appeal.

Now I'm thinking of a file server for my other PCs (laptop, wife, and future HTPC). I want to keep power consumption down, as it would be on all day. So I'd like a mobo with a IGP, at least 3 IDE channels, and a RAID controller (for mirroring). Does anybody remember if this existed in a KT133 chipset (no reason to get anything more advanced than this).

I looked through a few sites, but most companies have long ago stopped listing that genertion of motherboard. Do any of you remember one that fits my requirements.

I doubt there are many motherboards made NOW with on-bard RAID AND IGP. I think you'll have to choose one of those two and use an add on card for the other. For data integrity, I'd personally choose to have a seperate RAID board, as on board RAID is fairly non-portable (if your motherboard dies for another reason you have to get a new board with the same type of RAID controller to even access your old data.) If you are primarily interested in mirroring, performance differences between cards are minimal, and you can get some old 3Ware cards on ebay for pretty cheap.

There are boards that have RAID and boards that have IGP, but both on one board is pretty rare.
The KT133/A chipsets were not IGP. I think the IGP versions were called KM133 and KM133A
Here is where you can lookup VIA chipset information:
http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/chipsets/#legacy

You will certainly have to be buying products like this from ebay or FS/FT. Use google, as there are still reviews up for boards of this vintage ( http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1410 for example)

Good Luck.

a perfect board would be an A7V133-R
or an MSI K7T Turbo-R

I know I had both of those, and they were both great mobos! Athlon T-Bird 1.33 each time. no onboard video, but that would be hard to find!

just my thoughts based on what I had..

HTH.

You can get a KT133 board with RAID. There should be plenty of those left in Ebay or FS/FT forums. Throw a really old PCI video card in there. Power consumption on OLD PCI card should be very little, so you don't have to worry about
