I need to sign up for a standard DUN connection for 2-3 months when I'll be away from my DSL :(

I am going to be using a SMC Barricade wireless access point (Thanks JackMDS:)), so I need an ISP that uses standard DUN... No disconnects when I am idle would be nice too.

This will be the 3rd ISP I'm currently using ! :|

Good luck on finding an ISP with no idle disconnects. They can only have so many phone lines, and so many RAS resources. One-for-one will never happen (from an ISP)...it just isn't cost-effective.

just look for a local isp and you should have no trouble finding what you're looking for. while a lot of isps do have idle disconnects, also a lot dont, for reciprical compensation reasons.

Perhaps "fewer idle disconnects" would be more along the lines of what I am looking for...

With DellNet for instance, I am disconnected if I am idle for only a few minutes, which becomes a real pain.

There are little software programs that prevent idle disconnects..

Just make sure they aren't an ISP that disconnects you after a few hours (even if the connection IS NOT idle). Because there wont' be much of a way to stop this.

I use Earthlink and my computer has been connected for days at a time (usually by accident). And I have never gotten a busy signal, not once.

Thanks for the suggestion...

Does Earthlink require a software program to be open to connect?
Or does it connect using Windows Dial Up Networking (DUN)?

Please Let me know
Thanks
