Looking for an InkJet Printer; HP 1220 cxi Not Working

I currently have an HP 1220cxi inkjet printer (parallel and USB1.1 connections) and am having nothing but trouble with it. I have it plugged into my primary USB (2.0) hub, yet I still can't get two-way communications and several programs have trouble printing to it (Quicken 2003 Premier, TurboTax 2002 Premier, etc.). I have downloaded and reinstalled the print drivers and software from HP with no success. So, while I like the ability to use paper sizes up to tabloid (11x17), it doesn't matter much if it won't print to begin with.

If you have any miracle fixes, that would be most appreciated. Otherwise . . .

I need suggestions for a new inkjet (can't justify the expense of a laserjet; printer volume is just not that high). I want good quality text and graphics, both B&W and color. Also, I want good photo printing (only use this occasionally; if my wife and I ever get into digital photography, we'll get a dedicated photo printer).

Your suggestions welcome!

if you are looking for a dedicated photography printer, then i would look into getting the canon i850... very good quality, think tank system to save ink, fast, quiet, and good price... this is definently the printer to look into for picture printing..

however, if you are just looking for a printer for everyday text and some photos, then i would probably look into the canon i550 one... cheaper, pretty nice quality and it also has the thinktank system..

just a word of advice, i would stay away from the epson printers.. i use to have one and it caused me all sorts of problems.. especially the printhead clogging up, i have seen many users have this problem as well...

Currently, no other inkjet printers comes even close to the quality/price/performance/features of Canon "i" series printers. Get a Canon "i" (followed by a model number that suits your budget).

Try by-passing the hub and plug directly into a port on the computer.

Hi Scott,

I read your post with interest. I was given a refurbished Epson
2000P archival (up to 200 years!) inkjet printer as a gift. The 2000P prints
up to 13" x 44", which would address your needs for 11x17 printing. It might assuage your concerns about the cost whilegiving you a very good printer. As I have no need for this type of printer,
I would like to offer it to you for $360- + shipping. I have not used it, &
it remains in the box in which it came. Comes w/ a roll holder & one roll of
4" Premium Glossy Photo Paper. The 2000P might be a good option for you if
you are undecided about which printer would be best for your needs. You
certainly can't beat the price! Please let me know <koblenz@tds.net>. Thanks, -Pai

I can testify that the Epson 2000 is a goddamned work of art. If it wasn't such a damn good printer, it'd belong in a museum.

If you can afford it, I'd snag it. $360 is a freaking STEAL.
