Looking for an inexpensive sound card

I think I might need a new sound card. I'm not stuck trying to jiggle the speaker plug to get sound coming out of both speakers. Since I don't need a lot of sound card features, because I only have room for a 2.1 setup, I'd like something that's relatively inexpensive. I don't need 5.1 or 7.1 speaker support, optical out, 24-bit sound, etc... I'm not a hard core audiophile or gamer. But, I would like a sound card that will do a good job with MP3s, movies and the like.

You have to jiggle the speaker plug? That sounds more like the speakers then the sound card to me.

I'm pretty sure that it's the sound card, because i've plugged the speakers into other devices and it's worked fine. I think the contacts in the sound card are kind of messed up

Decided to go with the Chaintech card. The Turtle Beach Santa Cruz was pretty tempting, but in the end, my wallet made the final decision.

i know that best buy as the audigy 2 zs, but I don't want to wait for a rebate, and my needs don't dictate the need for a $50 sound card when one that is half the cost will do just as well for my needs.

Generic CMI8738 4 channel sound card - $4.90 (w/free shipping).

It does the job. There is practically no difference between this card and all the other CMI8738 clones out there.
