I would like some input and advice for an inexpensive db meter. I plan on using the db meter to calibrate my HT setup and to determine why my rig is so loud. Thanks for your time now and later.

The best would be to go to radio shack and get an spl meter for under $40

A more complicated manner would be to use a recording device such as microphone, then playing the recorded audio into a music editor. You could then see the average sound DB if the program allows it.

Whatever happened to the human ear? LOL 😀 Just put you ear next to your computer to determine the cause of the noise 😉 I'd unplug all the case fans to see what is loud. Usually it is the hard drives that are loud, then the fans.

Thanks for the SPL suggestion HouRman, I was searching the Radio Shack website for a db meter and came up w/o any hits, SPL as a search key worked much better. Is this the particular model you were referring to:
Analog-Display Sound-Level Meter ?
FlowerMan, I have used my ear, but I wanted to see how the noise in my system is relative to the products out there, as I don't know how much db's my current CPU fan and PS fan make. I should have been clearer when I made this post, but thanks for the reply 🙂
