My fiancee and her sister want to go in on a very simple and basic digital camera for their mother. I was expecting to see hundreds of similar threads buried here, but apparently there's only one page of posts.

So -

Basic, non fancy, easy to use camera.
$100 or less

Hep please?

Nope - my mother sees great - she's really just not technically savvy. So - as point and shoot as possible but still taking pretty good pictures and easy to put on the computer.

Thanks!

I have a similar need. I'm looking for a cheap camera to take pictures of stuff to sell. What do you give up when you buy the very cheap cameras (like under $50) as apposed to the slightly more expensive units (say in the low $100s range)? I know virtually nothing about digital photography.

you pretty much have to go to a store and see. other than lack of zoom and megapixels, i'd imagine quality and quality control are the first things to go out the door. reviews of $100 ish cameras are almost non-existent, and i've never seen a review of a camera for half that. you'd probably be better off getting something off ebay that is several years old.

A550 review

that's the only review of a sub $100 camera on dc resource page. the only camera close to that price that was review is the GE G1 (not exactly a glowing review).

kodak easy share is supposed to be retardedly easy to use, assuming the camera comes with the dock.

It's hard to make a generalization of "what you give up" when getting a less expensive camera. However, I'll make this note: most people were quite content to use the digital cameras from quite a few years ago, at least as far as using those images for taking pictures of stuff to sell.

The first digital camera I had did a wonderful job taking pictures to use on ebay. It was $150 back then, including the memory card. Now I'm sure you could probably find that camera or one similar to it for a fraction of the price.
