OK, so my close family is out in NC. (We were all So Cal at one time, but now scattered) Bro's graduating college in May and mom would like everyone out one last time before they sell their house (longer story).

Long story short.............

It'd be me, the wife & 2 kids flying for a total of about a grand!! I'm sick of *starting* at a grand every time we fly anywhere and since things are tight these days, lookin' for any help I can get.

Any inside scoops/deals/promos/hostage scenarios to get 4 tix under the $200 mark??

TIA for any help

Ehhh, unless you find some crazy deal on orbitz, discover thousands of miles on a CC you forgot about, or are willing to hijack a small commuter plane, not sure if there's a way to magically shave $800 off airfare. If there was an easy way, you'd think that more people would do it.

You could take the train or a greyhound, but that would be quite a lengthy trip. 🙂

if you're living at mom's house, i would try to show up a day or two real via an really open ended orbitz ticket.

Lowest I found was $961.60 incl taxes/fees for four passengers. Southwest, LAX to RDU depart 5/21 return 5/30.

Wait.. $200 total or $200 each? If the latter, just shoot yourself.

Are you flying from SoCal to NC? Some more information in your post would be helpful

Yes, $200/person.

I'm not sure if any family of 4 ever flew anywhere for under $200 in the history of aviation!?!?
😛

And, yes, socal to nc.

Preferably around 5/9 as that's grad day. I looked at 5/7 to 5/13 give or take a day or two.

Southwest looks deceivingly attractive til you realize their fares are ONE WAY.

OK, bumping for suggestion..........

Travel plans have changed to MUST BE 5/8 to 5/11 or 5/12. (No option on 5/8 as 5/7 too early and 5/9 too late)

Looks like, if I buy the 4 tickets in 2 pairs, I can do $119 going and $99 return.

If I purchase all 4 at once, then the departure flight I really wanted goes to $157.

Total now is $1013 after taxes, ass rapage, etc.

This is Southwest, and based on their "sale". (Their fares literally change TWICE DAILY!!!!, NO BULL!!!)

Should I jump on it or wait??? (Lowest I could see going is to $99 from the $119 on departure, but dunno if it's worth $80 to gamble???)

TIA....again! 🙂

$200 is a pretty had number to get flights under unless its a good sale. Maybe take the family to Alaska first so you rack up some miles before the trip? 😉

Have you checked flights from other nearby airports? Sometimes if you drive an hour or two you can save money.

The OP said 2 adults and 2 kids. Not sure how much this may lower the price (you booked for 4 adults).

Yes, I have checked surrounding airports (LAX, OC) but no-joy. Same thing, plus ONT is closer & much less hectic.

Also just checked Orbitz, but definitely not close, plus our last trip to WIS, we paid like $60 extra for the checked bags we had (grrrr).

I'm thinkin' this might be as good as it gets, unless they do something for April 15, like a mercy-for-tax-payers fare. 😛
