Looking for Advice on Programming

Hi. I want to create a database that can do calculations etc.

I know nothing about programming or databases.

What I do know is a procedure that I use to basically prepare horse ratings. I know the practical things that have to be done and I want to put it into a program.

Sorry if it doesn't sound clear. Can anybody suggest a program I should buy and use...(Excel?).

Excel would probably be fine for this. You may also want to look int Microsoft Access. These a the starting point to databases and programming them.
