Go to college, then the military.
I'd pick Air Farce over Army. You can put in 8 hour days and learn a trade that you can use when you get out.
I didn't find much calling for baby killer when I got out.

I really hope this post isn't serious.

Go Air Force. better chow and dorms.

They are called barracks, this isn't college. But yes, Air Force life is better. However, you wont be in quite the same military environment.

Why wouldn't it be serious?

As ex-AF, I agree with oldsmoboat - some of my friends from other services had trouble finding after-service work, due to the 'specialization' of their trades while in. The AF is a bit easier to market...

Air Force or Navy.

Air Force- If you die, you die quickly, unless you do the whole ejection thing over enemy territory, then you're screwed. Need 20/20 vision and an astounding ability to entertain yourself on long flights.

Navy- Get to ride on a cool boat, sweep floors, and see huge guns firing. Nevermind if you have to abandon ship. Then you're in water infested with sharks

Talking about me....😎

When I went through OCS, 1/4 of the group were prior enlisted.

They ranged from an E2 through E9.

If you join out of HS, then you can let the experience in the service guide you. However, you may find it harder to concentrate on college during your first couple of years and then you will not be able to complete college during your first enlistment due to time constraints.

So now you will be completing college 6-8 years later than your peers.

definitely consider the air force. It's not as hard core as the others and you're not stuck on a boat for extended periods of time. It'll give you enough discipline to use in college/work force and not get yourself in an overly hostile arena.

Marines = playing scarecrow for suicide bombers in Iraq for 15 month stints!
Army = ^

Navy = Confinement to small quarters on ship for months on end. Forget about getting free time to travel around during port calls. The war pretty much nixed that whole idea.

Air Force = cake.

Marines- 7 months

Army- just got extended to 15 months....I'm gonna be suckin...

Navy- 6 months on boat; 7 months w/ permission from commander and 12 month on the ground

Airforce- no idea...

I wouldn't do it unless you are aware there is a decent chance to die in Iraq.

you dont enlist in wartime for a job. you enlist because military is your passion. ie: TallBill

Definately🙂. I'm not in the US so wouldn't have to go there, but I do plan on joining up in a year or two after I graduate (Canada). Got a decent chance of going to Afghanistan if I make it that far, hearings news of quite a few casualties (8 dead this week alone) and I've never wanted to join up more and get deployed.

Back in 1990 I served in the Navy as an Avionics Technician. When I signed my contract they said something about enlisting as a TAR. I had no idea what it was. So once I got out of Avionics School and got my orders to Detroit, Michigan I was sort of happy. Being that I was from Wisconsin, so it was a short 8 hour trip back home. Ship time = ziltch. Basically I was part of the skeleton crew of a P-3 Orion squadron that held the place together til the reservists came in. I'm not sure if they're still recruiting TARbabies, but that could be an option.

I got all the benefits of being in the Navy without setting foot on board a ship. Had I been a bit mature I probably would have started college back then. I served for 4 years and would have stayed in more, but the Navy didn't want any more Avionics Techs, so I left.

Good luck with whatever path you take.
