Olla!
going to build a nice 2500$ machine {lcd not included} ,
will need some general guidelines [I know almost everything I want to buy, but I might change some components] , and help with the actual assembly.
50$ ? and the joy of building a killer computer ?

List the components.
Search for "MechBGon's Guide to building a computer" - you'll find a nice guide to actually building it.

Start there.

What are you planning on doing whith this computer. Is it going to be a "killer" photochopper? Maybe a "killer" video editor? Or a "killer" gaming computer?

OK!
Thanks everyone for the quick replies. I didn't expect them so soon, and didn't expect so many.
I'm only starting to order the parts in a month or so , when I'll have all the money (working hard right now).
I'll try to answer all the questions that popped up :
1.I'm building a killer computer... because... I don't know, because I can. I'm from Israel, spending some time in the US , making some money, and coming back to israel with a computer... well, that I can't ever build there, and even if i could, it would have cost me three times the price here.
Anyway, I admit, I'm not going to use a third of the future computer power , since I using it mostly for presantations, pictures and music, but I still like to have awsome power.
I'm thinking about a dual core athlon 64 , around 500$ ?
a nice MOBO, gotta have Asus , around 300$ ?
As much ram as possible, and quality one, for OC , and from a brand name... 400$ ? 2gb ?
two (sli) Nvidia 6600gt 400$
two 150 gB sata har drives 250$
two dvdrw's 200$
and either A LOT of fans (israel is hot, computer there reach high temperatures... +I like buying stuff... I'm talking about a fan for each dvd drive, a fan for each hard drive , etc') or a very nice cooling system, but nothing to complicated.
A nice looking case (with room for lots of fan inside and on it) 150$
a good strong psu 100$

did I forget any essential parts ?

that's it for now ?
questions ?
remarks?
anyone wants to laugh at me ? go ahead.

dont sli two 6600gt that is worthless when you can buy a 6800gt that is outpreforms it and it cheaper. looks like ot me alot of the stuff that u are putting down is over priced a mobo for 300 dollars? 400 for 2gb of ram?

Forgot a couple of things.
1.audio card .... probably an audigy, if I can easily disable on board sound.
2. mouse, already have my mx-510, great.
3.Don't know about buying a nice lcd and taking it back with me to israel, already planning a suitcase full of electronics... probably buy a cheap one for here, and when I get back, a good one.

- about the 6600 gt, I've read amazing revies on it, and since I won't even use half it's power, why not buy two ? (I don't even get me sometimes...).
But seriously , since I'm buying dual core, I thought about buying two video cards that also split the "burden" (of flipping back and forth pics, and playing small presentations...)
-about the ram - I come from israel, what I know from there is that I can buy kingston - which is the best, and all kinds of other brands.... companies that pop up every second with silly names "supercombo tech" and stuff... and I wanna fill my ram capacity , if I could have 4 gb, why not? but I still want it to be oc ready. when I started to think about the computer, it was 6 months ago , and the budget was 1000$ , and instead of buying pc3200 like everyone, I wanted 3500 or 3700 (actually pre ordered 3500 , 512mb hyperx kingston , for sale now.... cheap) and now if my mobo (didn't get the mobo remark, too cheap or too expensive?) uses ddr2 , then it costs more...

I'm open for advices and info on everything, that's why I'm using this forum.
thanks.

as an entusiast... as u probably noticed I was...
I want a nice case, a nice looking case, that has all the possible features :
light
lots of fans
good material
screwless installation
front usb& firewire ports.

when I first thought about building this cpu, I wanted the mge viper in black& red
and then I wanted the spiral galaxies by aerocool, then the ceturion 5 by coolermaster , now I'm thinking about thermaltake shark.

anymore nice looking cases who get the job done well? don't have to be a full tower... don't have to be cheap or expensive.
