I'm really interested in not just how to eat healthier but how to cook tastier meals too. I usually find it hard to stick to new eating plans because I tend to be such a picky eater, I'm just curious if other people on the board are the same way. If so where do you go when you want to find healthy recipes.

Foods that I generally like all the time:

Fruits
Salad foods (lettuce, tomatoes, avocados, cucumbers, etc..)
Spinach
Greens (kale, mustard, turnip, etc..)
Onions
Peppers (green, red, yellow)
Chicken (I'm not a big fan of skinless chicken, but if it's prepared well I don't mind)
Steak
Tuna
Salmon

Foods that I don't like:

Beans (ugh, for the most part I hate starchy vegetables)
Peas
Brocolli (I suspect no one really likes it, there parents make them eat it)

Hmm looking at this list I guess its not that I don't like a lot of foods, I just don't like how they're prepared at times. Bland food really turns me off, which is why I probably why I like chinese food although a lot of the americanized versions of it are'nt very healthy.

Cooking Light should be right up your alley. In addition to recipes, they have guides on various cooking methods (both in text and video format). The recipes also list serving sizes and nutritional information, so that would help a lot if you're counting calories with fitday or that other site.

Also, I like broccoli.

It's true, if you're going to eat anything, eat broccoli! To make it taste better, I steam it (with a simple plug-in $30 electric steamer) then toss with with some soy sauce.

Well, first of all what do you like to eat? Not a list of ingredients, but actually what are you eating when there's no holds barred?

There are often healthier ways to prepare stuff you're already eating...

exactly. brocc is retardedly good for you. i'm not a huge fan of it of plain broccoli, but steamed correctly with a little cheddar cheese and crushed rep pepper I love it.

Wow, great site. Thanks man

I spent about an hour out there today just browsing through all the recipes, I'm going to make a shopping list out for tomorrow and I plan on getting started with some of those meals right away.

Can you cook it in a similar way using a microwave?

For some reason I really love dishes with rice. So naturally I'm a big fan of chinese and cantonese style cooking, I also like certain mexican dishes that have rice (minus the beans). I like italian food because of the pasta and the various cheese sauces, but I tend to avoid it because of the carbs and fat. I'm also crazy about seafood (crab, scallops, lobster, etc..) I just suck at cooking it at home, although I would'nt mind trying to cook it again if I had a tasty recipe.

I adore Cooking Light. If you like Salmon, they have a great miso-glazed salmon recipe. There's one for roasted edamame as well. They have a lot of great tips for adding more flavor without adding more calories. Check out some Indian recipes as well, the foods you like would go well in curries and such. Have you tried lentils? They aren't as starchy and are very nutritious. Try different varieties of the vegetables you like too -- like heirloom tomatoes, different colors of peppers, and different varieties of onions. Soups and stews would work well with the things you've listed too. You could try some Japanese dishes as well.

The simplest way to make your meals taste better is to use fresh herbs. They have a ton of flavour and are right up your alley. Try some cilantro to start. Basil is also good. Rosemary is good on anything roasted. Peppercorns and bay leaves are good in any kind of broth. Thyme is very versatile in anything cooked.

That and spices. I got into dried spices (mainly McCormick since there's a huge section at my grocery store) last year and it's REALLY helped make "healthy" food more tasty and is even something I look forward to now!

Parsley is one of the most surprisingly healthy herbs out there. Look up all kinds of nutrition related stuff on nutritiondata.com
