i got my movado from thewatchery.com when they had a good sale on it. it is a watch that is like $1000 in Movado stores or Macys and it was $265 shipped on there.

i like it a lot and get a lot of compliments on it. very clean and simple watch with a nice band, that matches the diamond bracelet my wife got me afterwards.

$265 for a movado's a steal, I'll keep an eye on that site! I think I'm going to hit the mall during the weekend to try a few seikos and citizens out, vs blind buying off the web. sometimes watch dimensions are tricky to judge

I don't know a thing about watches, but like wearing them. I'd like something that looks good, has solid build quality, but doesn't need to be pretentious or ghetto chic. Most important, it must be in line with my current economic state (middle class, late 20s - not someone who's paid his dues and earned a omega). There's nothing cheasier to me than a 19 year old who drives a BMW or a McDonalds worker pimping with a $5k watch. I'm looking for the camry of watches.. Maybe even a civic - these are tough economic times!

So, what's a soild, unpretentious analog watch brand to look at? I had an invicta and it looked far nicer on the website than it did in person. I then bought a fossil and the crystal scratched almost immediately. Any suggestions?

I'd recommend a Citizen Ecodrive or a Bulova for everyday wearing. They make pretty low-profile watches that look professional. For their price range ($200-$350), the quality is very good. I have 6 watches; a Citizen Ecodrive, a Tag, 3 Bulovas.

I recently just purchased a Luminox 3051 blackout edition
http://www.luminox.com/watches?fam=SEA

It's a very nice, low key watch, and I'm not scared of getting it scratched. It's my new daily watch.

lol i just posted this pic in the camera forums, but anyways these are my favorite watches right here:

the g-shock mtg on the left being my favorite watch. It's solar and atomic, plus it has analog dials. the casio pathfinder i like to use when there is a remote possiblity I'll get stranded in the middle of nowhere, lol. The rolex i use on occasion but most of the time it just stays in it's watch winder. I also have a seiko kinetic which i like too because of it's sapphire crystal.

this is probably what I'll get next, the classic orange monster:

I like my Citizen Eco-Drive..... looks good and never have to mess with batteries. Mine has been running for 6 or 7 years now without a problem.

QFT

I'll never never use any other kind of watch again. Citizen Eco Drive.

That's actually pretty sexy yet low-key, I like it!

The orange monster - is it really that awesome? I'm starting a new job and want to make a nice, understated impression so I'd probably go with a black monster vs orange... Or the Seiko Samurai looks pretty chic to me:

It was around xmas time 2 years ago and also a 10% off coupon. It was like $295 I believe for one of those daily deals.

I have a seiko blue samurai. I found the monsters to be a bit too much for me. IMO, the samurai was a bit more toned down so I went for that instead. It seems like the prices have gone up in the last couple of years.

Casio G-Shock solar for $150. Won top ten best gadgets of 2009 by Time mag. The black on black looks slick.

I've been lookin @ gettin the orange monster for awhile, I guess i've grown to like it more. But yeah the black monster is cool too.

It maybe a little on the pricier side but my buddy was showing me some Sinn watches. Particuarly the Sinn Arktis, http://www.watchbuys.com/store/pc/Sinn-203-Arktis-on-Bracelet-4p296.htm. Awesome!

Update
Thanks for all the great suggestions! The seikos and citizen ecos that I liked were realistically out of my budget so I had to go with a lesser brand for now, but I'll definitely keep those suggestions in mind as well as the other suggestions when I get my first pay check ;)

Overstock had these Kenneth Cole watches for $50-60 each, so I bought two for different looks:

First one looks nice , but I'm not a fan of the white face dial on the second one.

Thanks! I actually prefer black myself but thebwife suggested white for my dark complexion. Since each were significantly below my budget i just sprung for both,. the white one also has a retro/mad men thing goinhg for it too

granted, it looks like a smaller copy of a bell & ross watch, but I think it is one of the better looking timex.

also, take my advise, forget about those cheap seiko automatics, if you really want automatic, get a nice one that can also be hand wound. This way you don't have to shake the watch every sunday to wind up and you don't have to move the crowd to it's more delicate position to adjust the date more often if you ever forgotten to. My blue titanium samurai's crowd is already stuck at the date position, piece of shit watch.

adding more blings:

Instead of the orange monster, i decided to get the landmonster. It's a hair smaller but still pretty hefty. The face is so big and heavy, i'm a little worried the bracelet might be to puny.
