Looking for a video card for light gaming, $40 or less

I'm on a very tight budget, but I'm looking for a cheap card that I can pick up somewhere today locally for about 30-40 bucks or less. I have a Tiger Direct, Circuit City and Best Buy nearby, I'm hoping one of those locations will have a decent card.


I basically play a lot of indie developed games Terraria, Vessel, Capsized, etc.. But I would like to try playing Skyrim even if on medium settings. My system is a q6600 running at stock speeds (I would consider OCing if I can do it without system mods). 4gb DDR2 8500. I had a 8800 GT that died on me, currently using a HD 2400 pro. It lags on even the most basic games.

Any suggestions?

I don't know if it's still there or not but.....you might check this thread in FS/T. I don't know if the 4850 is sold or not but if not, there's your $50.

You might also check this one from newegg. I'd say it's pretty close in performance to the 4850 but it's brand new and $39.99 after rebate.

How about a GTX 460 1GB for $50. I'll be selling both of mine at $50 each as soon as my 2 GTX 670s arrive (shortly, hopefully.)

How can you afford to buy games like skyrim? If you you can afford to buy games that must mean you have some kind of regular income. I suggest saving up a little more for the gpu.

for $50 u can get a 6670 on newegg. I own a 5670 and love it and can play any game out there. You can't play with the graphics maxed out... but everything runs well I throw at it. I'm not sure if i can post links to ebay here but for $30 you can get a 5670
