Can you give me a real reason the Titan isn't a proper truck?

It's not the engine - it has 7 more HP and 20 more lb-ft of torque than the F150.
It's not the hauling/towing - it hauls 190 more lbs and tows more than a comparable model F150.
It's not the bed size - the standard on the Titan is 1.3" longer than the F150.

I realize the F150 is American made (the Titan is built in Mississippi?) and has been around a lot longer (1948 vs. 2004), but the owners I know haven't had any reliability issues. I can't get the features this truck has on an F150 for anywhere near the same price. I also like my local Nissan dealer better than the Ford dealer.

Check the resale value on the titan. It's been horrible. If I were going for one, it would either be a brand new base trim for like $18,000 that I'd run into the ground or a used one with every option I wanted for a 50% off sticker price. For years it seemed like Nissan was offerering $7000 in rebates.

Their production numbers have been horrible. They can't move the trucks at all. Unless you were getting like 25% off the MSRP I wouldn't even consider a new one.

The Nissan Titan has been poor for reliability.

Anyway, if you aren't going to use your truck as a truck, then I would go with a smaller truck than full size. I've owned two Dakotas and I liked them, although they are nothing like the modern full size trucks that drive like a luxury car. The Dakota with the V8 will pull 7000 lbs and the only downside is that you don't have a full 48" between the wheel wells in the bed. Of course you can always throw some wood back there to raise up the "floor" to above the wheel wells.

I would look at the Honda Ridgeline too. It will pull 5000 lbs and it is a great family vehicle. It is the best handling truck on the road. Of course it is primarily front wheel drive and engages the rear wheels as needed with a magnetic clutch. (4x4 can be locked on in the lower gears below about 20 mph.)

I'm getting more than 25% off sticker.

dude...this is a major purpose...at least go and drive the F150, Silverado and Ram. You would be foolish to just jump the first one.

I like the looks of the TITAN..pretty sharp truck. you will not like the gas feeding on any of them LOL...slurrrrrrrrrp.

It's the intangibles. F150s are disturbingly long lived, even when used hard. The interior is incredible, though that usually matters less.

There's nothing wrong with the Titan if you're buying it as a driver and an occasional hauler/tower. If you're going to be regularly doing truck shit, then you'll want something with more reliability and a better pedigree.

Also, don't take Nissan's power claims on paper seriously. Their trannies eat a lot of power. I'd bet money the F150 sees more power at the wheels.

I was in the market for a new truck in 2007. I bought a Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab. I owned it for two years, and had no complaints aside from the gas mileage. At the time, it was the best deal (Lonestar & Hemi). The ride was a bit stiff, but was fun from light to light (very quick). The interior was mediocre, and the cabin can be noisy at highway speeds. I've always thought these were great looking trucks.

I also looked at the Ford, and would have bought it if it was as cheap as the Dodge. The cabin was much quieter, and the interior was better designed. The ride was more comfortable, but it seemed to have less power than the Dodge. I find these to be nice looking trucks, and the good looking interior makes for a nice all-around package.

I've driven a new Tundra, but it was much too expensive for me to consider when we were looking. The interior seems higher quality than the Ford, though not better designed to me. The Ford seems to be a little quieter as well. I found the ride very comfortable, and the engine has a lot of power. It felt more powerful than the Ford, though less than the Dodge. The styling didn't do a whole lot for me, so I was not sad it was out of my price range.

I wasn't overly impressed with the Titan. I liked the exterior styling (though less than Ford or Dodge), and the interior was mediocre (comparable to the Dodge, and less than Toyota/Ford). The engine sounded more responsive than it was (nice exhaust note), and I can't remember the ride quality. It had some neat gadgets at the time, though I belive the other manufacturers have caught up by now. The pricing wasn't good enough for me to consider at the time (more expensive than Ford/Dodge in 07).

I didn't test drive a Chevy. There were few discounts when I was looking in 2007. The new styling has grown on me, but I remember not caring for it as much in 07.

I have some reservations about buying a Dodge/GM product right now, which have nothing to do with the quality of their vehicles.

Bought the Titan today. Ended up around 15k after trading in my Mustang (was a little tough giving it up). I'll post some pictures tomorrow if anyone is interested. It just barely fits in the garage with my wife's Rogue. I have the extended towing mirrors and have to fold one in when backing through the door.

I won't be using it as an everyday hauler (I work a desk job), so it ended up being the best value for my needs.

F-150

I rented this truck before for a few days, it was nuts, pure tank. Also you should consider how much R&D goes into that thing since it makes up for a shitload of Fords total sales. Wiki the F-150 and you will see.

If I was in the market for a truck I'd buy one no questions asked.

Buy an F150 and thank me later.

Sales figures mean nothing to me, and Nissan wants to build it on the Ram assembly line to save money. I've heard great things from the Titan owners I know personally, including first model year owners.

Here's the problem, low production vehicles are a bitch to maintain over time, particularly models that are going to be out of production soon, looks like that model will be made for one more year at best, and frankly with that kind of production volume, they may as well kill it now.

If you sell it, orphaned vehicles are shit for resale value.

I know one Titan owner, and he wouldn't buy another one, ever. He's had nothing but problems.

LOL, the OP started a thread asking for advice, and bought the one FS truck no one recommended.

This thread needs to be bookmarked and brought up in about 18 months to 2 years when the OP is tired of his orphaned truck and discovers what the resale value is.
