looking for a solid & quiet psu

With all the concerns over dual rail psu's I've reconsidered my preference for an Enermax Noisetaker 2.0 SLI and was wondering how the above psu compares in terms of noise/stability. I will be running an FX-55 rig with dual BFG 6800 Ultra's in a Lian-Li v1000B case.

In terms of PSU's, extremes in performance or very quiet operation aren't inclusive usually. The 510 is arguably one the best PSU's available, but you can hear it. If silence for an ultra-performance machine like yours (with its high thermal curve) is really that important to you, you're going to need to choose your cooling methodology, and its components, very carefully.

True, but I don't think it's going to matter in his system; dual 6800 Ultras = lots of noise.

Oh yeah, loads. The only way around that kind of racket is water, and for a rig like that it wouldn't be cheap or easy.

 
I would go pcp&c 1st then seasonic s-12
I've got a pcpc and while its solid as ever, they are noisy.
 
PCP&C will customize anything you order from them....
you could even take a 80mm you want better, and send it to them, and they will put it in for you.

The V1000 only has one fan in the main compartment which will make for a very toasty system given your component list. You may want to consider using artic cooling units to pull the video card heat out of the case.

It's just four screws, pretty easy actually.
 
Get the OCZ 520 instead. Cheaper, almost as high quality, more features, more power. Not quite as stable, and not as good voltage regultion, but VERY quiet.

Ribbon that PSU is overkill unless you have a full loaded SCSI RAID system, multiple processors, and a high end peltier cooler.

"Amen brother?" Is being cheap a matter of principle now? 😉 If I saw a PSU that I wanted and it just happened to be $239, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Come on, is $239 really all that much money???
