Looking for a small mouse

The MX518 has godly tracking. If it could be gutted and put into the cheap Logitech mouse casing, I'd be very happy (I'm not thrilled about a lack of Win2k support, but can handle not using extra). However, the mouse is just too big. With the height of the MX310, it is also just too big (I move the mouse with my fingers, leaving my wrist stationary), but not by much (the top backs right into my palm).

Is there a comparable mouse that is, well, small, but not portable mouse small? The old version of this is what I'm using now (same size and shape, but no grooves for the fit). The size is good. One similarly sized, but specially right-handed, and with great tracking would be perfect (basically, shrink the mx510 or mx518 to 2/3 the current length).

It used to be Logitech had nice stuff, but made for people with small hands. Now they have nice stuff made for people with big hands! Arg! :)

I just picked up a wireless Logitech for my laptop and it fits nicely in my palm and is a little smaller than my trackballs but it does the job.

That's about the same size as the MX310.

If you're looking for a small mouse, look for laptop mice, some of those things are tiny. Just don't expect gaming quality tracking.

As said, I don't really want one that small. They are too easy to roate accidentally, and tend to be so light that they can be picked up without effort. If the MX310 were flatter, it would work. I only move the mouse about 1 1/2" inch from one side of my screen to the other, and not quite 2/3 of that for a 180 in a game. The mouse I linked is about right for size, IMO, it just doesn't have a high enough DPI, and it's tracking isn't very smooth (unbeatable for a $6 mouse, but I want a small likeness of their $40 mouse! :)), which actually tends to be more of a problem for desktop use than gaming. If I had bigger hands, the MX518 would be an ideal mouse, and maybe even the MX310 (why did they give it that big hump in the back, anyway?).

Are the Razer mice smaller? Do the Creative mice perform well? Are there really any others that make nice mice anymore?

Razer's mice I believe are larger in footprint, but they're flatter... maybe that's what you want.

I know what you mean about the "hump." If it wasn't for that I might've gotten a MX310 a long time ago.

I find that Razers are more suited for people who grasp their mice with their fingertips as opposed to their whole hands.

Azndude51: how big are the Razers compared to the aforementioned Logitechs (finding comparisons is hard--I've tried my best at Googling well before I tried starting a thread here--sometimes the perfect keywords elude me)? I haven't found such a thing, nor even pictures in a review of multiple mice like these together. I happen to hold my mouse w/ my fingertips...on one hand I don't want to pay that much for a mouse (obviously, I'm looking at the Copperheads :)), but on the other, what I've got is not good enough for daily desktop use anymore (gaming reflexes transfer over, ya know :)). Unfortunately, some mice, mainly Creative and Razer, are basically impossible to demo (no major stores carry them). I just can't relearn how to use a mouse, having done it the same way for at least 10 years, now.

Aside: going through Newegg user reviews fishing for ideas, it looks like I'm not alone...

Update: OK, I've given up. I guess I need to learn to use a big mouse. Red MX510.
