Trying to help an older friend buy a laptop. I told her the main thing that she should be paying attention to is the quality of the processor.

She's been asking me opinions on some, but i have to check that processots benchmarks every time to tell her how one compares to the other.

To make it simple, i told her to just look for an i3 (i figured any i3 would be good enough for her) but there were plenty of c2d's and others that were good enough. (price range in <400)

Also, I have no idea how AMD processors compare to one another, im really only familiar with intel.

Is there a chart that shows the hierarchy of mobile cpu's that i can give to her, so she can compare herself?

This doesn't really help you but I have a FS add up locally for a core 2 duo 2.0ghz lappy. It's just sitting here folding and has been for awhile, only asking 200 bucks for it. Even has hdmi. It's a dell studio 1535 if your interested :)

Edit: Oh and here is your chart

Edit2: Tell her to use control+f, type the name of the processor in. If it's a lower rank its better :) Aka lower number, aka closer to the top lol.

Just pick one for her...

Go intel for mobile, they are more power efficient. i3 is right on the money

Also tell her to wait for BF deals, pretty sure walmart has some good deals this year on cheap laptops :)

He wasn't looking for a list of names nor the specs he was looking to compare them all at once.

Edit: Don't get me wrong though that link works and is valid, just a much longer more complicated way then reviewing them all at once :)

Has clocks and cache but no performance information that I can see.

It's too bad that the AnandTech Bench doesn't cover any mobile CPUs, though I realize it would be hard to make the scores comparable with the variations in the other parts of the laptops.

I was looking for a good comparison between i5-2520M and Core 2 t7800 for work, but the 2520M benches I found didn't include any Core 2 systems :(

You were right on the money. A sandy bridge I3 would be perfect for her. Great battery life and performance for mainstream use.
