Looking for a similar band...

To the band "In Flames"

For those of you who don't know the band, it's kind of thrash metal but it has melodic ballad qualities sometimes, just like 80's bands used to. This is mainly for people who know of the band, because I would serve a sample song but I am afraid the AT effect would rape my server. If someone is willing to host one, that would be cool.

Yeah, and most of what it listed was more similar to In Flames than the bands you mentioned yourself 😉

True that the Nightwish samples on their site aren't the best, but it does give you an idea as to the music they make.

Contrary to popular belief, I'm not an expert on heavy-metal 😛. His description of "melodic 80's music" reminded me instantly of Stratovarious (altrough it's not really like the sample). And Nightwish deserves to be mentioned in every thread about music, IMO 😀. Some stuff by The 69 Eyes does remind me of the sample, and so does some stuff by Within Temptation. As to the rest of the bands I listed.... I dunno bout them, I just cut 'n pasted.
