looking for a short story

i remember reading it about 30 years ago or so. it was about a woman who mistakenly broke an old tradition and threw hot water outside without giving a warning. the water burned the back of an invisible lamb and it haunted her for many days. a lamb with a burn scar would charge into her living room every night and just die on the floor. one day she grabbed it and put ointment on it and it left her alone.

it was kinda creepy but i wanted to read it to my kids. anyone remember this story?
