I enjoyed Flowers for Algernon.
I just need some recommendations.

Dorsai series

altho the author died b4 finishing the final book 🙁

Ian McDonald's River of Gods and
Brasyl

Outstanding near-future sci-fi. Very immersive, great characters, complex plots, technology that's actually conceivable IRL.

Arthur C Clarke
Frank Herbert
Issac Asimov
Phillip K Dick
Robert A Heinlein

That should keep you busy for a while.

I am looking for science fiction at the plot driver. Social issues are more entertaining than technicalities.

then anything by Philip K Dick should suit you. start with "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"

Just finished reading Hyperion by Dan Simmons. It's excellent. It won the Hugo Award back when it came out.

Highly recommended.

It isn't squarely science fiction, but stuff by Kurt Vonnegut. Cool stories with a scientific basis but more redeeming social value than most, and some humor as well.

Read the 5 books in the "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe Trilogy".

The above and Starship Troopers, as well.

armor by john steakley. it's everything starship troopers wasn't

then vampire$ for good measure.

it sounds like you are looking for something closer to the real world e.g. technological impact on society still similar enough to ours. check out:

- permutation city (near future, explores computerization of consciousness)
- diamond age (near future world, nanotech focused)
- snow crash (this a bit weird but entertaining)

The Foundation Series (not trilogy, series) by Issac Asimov
The Robot Novels by Issac Asimov
Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein
