Looking for a sci fi book with bomb pumped lasers

Back in the mid 90s I remember reading a Sci Fi book set in the Solar System about a war of Earth vs Belters. One battle scene had an Earth battleship (I think) using a nuclear bomb-pumped laser to take out a belter frigate... or maybe it was the other way around.

Anyone know the name of this book?

Not sure if it's what you are looking for, but they do use bomb-pumped lasers in the Honor Harrington series. It's a very good series.

Basically you set off a nuke (which outputs a shitload of photons) and focus those photons into a really powerful X-ray laser.

Whether or not this is really technically feasible is a somewhat open question, but some SF authors adopted it as a weapons system.

It's a long shot, but you might be thinking of Daniel Keyes Moran's Continuing Time series, which includes: Emerald Eyes, The Long Run, and The Last Dancer. The last book in the series involved pumped or overloaded laser rifles which one faction used to take out the cyborgs from the other faction. These books are long out of print, however, and the author (good as he was) has fallen into some obscurity.

It's a new one on me as well and I consider myself well read particularly in science fiction. It seems rather fitting that it was coined by a rabid Trekkie though.
