Looking for a remote desktop application

I need something where I can view a XP machine with a Win 7 machine. I tried Team viewer, but it wasn't working for me. I would like something where I don't have to port forward the ports on the remote machine. I know of hamachi, but not sure what to download. I have used UltraVNC in the past, but I have to port forward for that.

If you have someone at the XP end to initiate the connection, there's Windows Remote Assistance.

I don't use anything NetBIOS related and in fact NetBIOS is blocked in my router. I just want a software app.

I found something very easy and light to use and it goes through NAT. It's called Ammyyadmin. http://www.ammyy.com/en/

I am using and have used UltraVNC, RemoteDesktop and TeamViewer for years for viewing XP and Win7 boxes and never had to portforward, not for viewing on my LAN but also not for any remote boxes outside.

Windows Remote Assistance does not use NetBIOS.

I just looked it up and it uses a NetBIOS name. I'm pretty sure Netbios has to be on to use it. I found an application anyways.

You can try logmein (not hamachi, same company).

Though I'd look into why teamviewer wouldn't work. IME, teamviewer is by far the most fool-proof option. If the machine can browse the internet, teamviewer should work.

Not sure but can you do that with GBridge (I think so)?!?

No port forwarding that I know of.

(Of course, it's a Google product so they are turning your stuff over to the NSA!)

Yeah, with Teamviewer I just made an account, logged in and added one of my computers. If I were ever away from home, I could download Teamviewer portable, log into my account and access my home computer.

Windows Remote Assistance is implemented with RDP (same as Terminal Services), port 3389. It may well announce that it has such a service on a local network like MS SQL Server is capable of doing, but that does not mean that either require NetBIOS traffic in order to work on a network.
