Looking for a QUALITY Floppy Drive...

... not really.

My real question is: When will CD/DVD burners get to the point where you'll laugh when you see a thread on Anandtech saying "Looking for a QUALITY DVD Burner!"

I think CD burners will become extinct before that happens, they are already being included in DVD burners so whats the point in getting a CD burner when a DVD burner is almost as cheap...

Good point. I still use CDs though... especially for ISOs and small backups. I just don't use a CD burner. In fact many OEMs are starting to include DVD burners for comps > $700 (my dad just bought a $700 HP with a 15" flatpanel and he got a 12X DVD-RW with it).

I cant wait until our removable media drive is a little slot in your computer where you place in a 4-10GB SD or CF card or something like that. And they cost te same as a cheap CD-R 😉

Just like I can't wait for 100% efficient cars. 😀

MFG! I've had my "crappy" NEC floppy drive FAIL on me, causing WRITE errors on the disk! Ugh. 😉.

It won't be long with blue-ray and hd-dvd coming out.

wafflesandsyrup, I suggest you change your sig before bunny gains world domination. After he does, he will destroy you if he sees that.

Cd drives aren't the ones that replaced floppies. USB flash drives replaced floppies. I wonder when they will start making 10GB flash drives........... For 20 cents (2 cents per GB).

I believe 4GB flash drives are already in existence, but they cost the pretty penny. I suspect it won't be long before we see both USB 3.0 and 16GB USB drives.

I wish USB flash drives could replace floppies. I spend a couple hours trying to get my flash drive to load up partition magic.... couldn't figure out how to do it! Maybe I'm dumb, but I just gave up and bought a $20 USB floppy drive.

I haven't even seen free samples of floppies or CD-R's. What makes you think they're gonna do it with flash drives?
