looking for a programmer

My company is looking for programmers to hire in the Temecula/Riverside area of southern california. Since i know there are a lot of great programmers here, i figured i'd ask around and see if any of you know anyone who is local and would be interested. We're looking for a pretty wide variety of skills: unmanaged C++ experience, Pocket PC development, ASP/ASP.NET web development, SQL, etc. I never realized how hard it is to find quality programmers who know their stuff and who aren't societal outcasts.

yeah i saw that thread. The difference was that I'm posting here because its specifically software deveopment (more ontopic than offtopic, IMO) and because I'm also looking for anyone who knows OTHER people. If youre a developer and your brother is looking for a job similar to yours, "off topic" isn't the best place to look for other programmers to talk to.

I know it's kind of quasi-crossposting but i did have a legitimate reason for posting here instead of ATOT. If mods think it's considered cross-posting feel free to lock.

FYI, we hired a Windows C++ app developer last year using monster.com and he's worked out pretty well. Someone else did the actual ad placement and the first filtering of the resumes, but he said it wasn't too expensive ($300-500 IIRC).

You'll have to plow through a lot of resumes that are obviously wrong for the job, but you should find at least a few decent prospects.

yeah looking into dice and monster. We're looking for a few jr-mid level developers but i kind of wanted to try out any recommendations/refereals before i just randomly look on the internet.

Actually it's not even the nerd/geek thing. I can deal with that -- in fact, i could be accused of being a geek pretty easily. We actually WANT geeks to work for us. But the problem is the geeks that are so out of touch with the real world that they cant function in society. You know, the guys who play WoW/EQ for weeks at a time, don't shower, come into work 2 hours late, and couldnt get a gf to save their life. I don't want to cringe if i take him to a client meeting and he shows up in shorts and tells the client that he should just buy all linux servers and throw away his exchange and windows boxes.

What kind of software do you need developed?

we have a few asp/COM+ (VB6) apps that need both modifications and rewrites to ASP.NET, an umananged C++ routine that interfaces with a scanner (development experience with twain would be great for this), and a couple of ideas for some pocket pc integration into our applications.

We're looking at interns and jr-mid range programmers. Our apps arent complicated enough to warrant PhDs and guys with 20 years of experience -- it would largely be a waste of their talents. I posted here because i figured there'd be a few programmers on here who have done a few freelance apps, maybe graduated with a CS degree, but largely didnt have the kind of enterprise level experience that most employers want. A lot the employers out there aren't willing to take chances on jr programmers or recent college grads when they can hire a mid range progammer desperate for work for the same price. We're located in an awesome location (most people work in san diego or LA and commute from temecula....we're located in temecula), the boss doesnt micromanage, there's a huge opportunity for advancement and bonus, and you don't have to deal with the standard bureaucratic BS that i got sick of in the military ("Why can't we do it like this?" "stop questioning authority. We don't pay you to think.") It wasn't that bad, but you get the idea.
