I've got DSL, so this isn't for me, but I have a friend who gets bumped off because of inactivity when he is dialed into his ISP. He wants to do some larger downloads overnight, but the connection times out...

Now, I know programs exsist for this, can anyone help me?

if he's downloading overnight.. then why would he get bumped off due to inactivity? If you're downloading, that's activity, no?

Downloading doesn't seem to appear as activity to ISP's. I think I've even had my HD set to shut down after 5 hours of inactivity, and even it would shut down during an unattended download and screw things up.

Madthumbs is right. When I was on AT&T dialup, I'd lose the connection when d'ling large files, like mp3's or game demos.

Try this:
Keep Connected

I couldn't find the app I used, but this one got good rec's from other users.

Simplest method is to leave outlook (or whatever e-mail program you are using) running and set it to check for new mail every X minutes :)

I think Getright has an option to "Ping to keep alive" somewhere in the configuration settings, if you use Getright to do your downloads.
