Not looking for open source shopping carts but something turnkey like Miva Merchant where I can call a company up to get support and customization. I want to start with a $500 budget. Have racked Windows and Linux servers so either will work. I just don't like Miva.

I'm not seeing anything I like there on webhostingtalk.com. Maybe my budget is too little. I'm willing to invest a lot more if I need to in addition to a programmer and designer. I need something serious, more professional, polished and scalable. Cubecart, Zencart, OS Commerce etc. are not what I'm looking for. Maybe I have to revisit Miva..

Only one I've used is http://www.candypress.com

It's really cheap (like $60) but is all ASP and is 100% completely customizable so you can integrate it with your site.

Go to the site and check out the sample pages if they still have them. It gives you complete flexibility. Their forums are usually really helpful when I had question but I haven't used it for a few years.

EDIT: Actually, every time you refresh the homepage you get 2 different 'Featured Sites" on the side you can go look through to see how people have customized it.

I recently went through what you went through and got so frustrated I wrote my own. PM me for the address if you want to check it out. Been live for just over a month now and the first month has seen their highest order volume they've seen in 2 years.

(I'd post it here but we're measuring unique views vs. completed orders and I don't want a bunch of 'fake' unique views)

I need something where I can call a company for support, not just an online forum although good info can be found in forums - and sometimes they're more helpful, it's about time in this case...

Homegrown is a good project to support on your own but what happens to the client if you decide to not build nor support the application anymore?
