That's a great-looking car, congrats! What color did you get?

Also, glad I live in NC as putting a front plate bracket on that grille would be a travesty.

Boo should have gotten the pilot!

I like being the only one in my area with a cx9. I've only seen one in my area since it was released.

CX9 has no more room than my CX5 in front. Hardly premium IMO. Rear room is much better.

Watch out for the new turbo. Not saying it will be bad, but Mazda Service Guys told me they do fix lots of CX7 ones.

Good you did not take the Pilot, I guess. I test drove Tourning one with 9 speed AT and it was beyond horrible.

My 2007 Odyssey would destroy it.

The materials in the CX9 are definitely a step above the materials in the 1st generation CX5. Not sure how you are equating "room" with "premium". So is a Ford Transit premium because of all the room it has? You could argue that the CX9 is not premium compared to a BMW/Merc/Cadillac/Lexus...but if you compare it to its direct competitors (Pilot, Highlander, Atlas, etc.)... I'd say it certainly has a more premium feel.

The turbo in the CX7 is not related to the turbo engine in the CX9 in any way. The reliability of one really has no bearing on the other IMHO.

Was recently in your position. Needed a 3rd row for when we have visitors.

We ended up getting a Q7, but honestly I would have bought a CX9 if it weren't for the fact that the 3rd row did not have two latch tethers for car seats. The Pilot, Q7, and Tahoe were the only SUV's that we considered that had this feature and ultimately we decided on the Q7 (I was leaning toward the Tahoe, but my wife felt it was too big and really this is her car). The Pilot was more practical than the Q7, but it just felt flimsy compared to the other two (and that is reflected in price...but IMHO, the Highlander and especially the CX9 had a much higher quality feel in our opinion).

So as mentioned, if the CX9 had the 3rd row configuration we had wanted, I am sure that is what we would have bought.

Side note...we love the Q7.

Did you check out the Volvo XC90? It's great.

We really liked the Volvo. Honestly, the biggest thing holding us back on the XC90 was the empirical and anecdotal evidence that reliability is not good on the new XC90 (or the old for that matter). Plus, once we tried the diesel in the Q7...it was hard to turn back. Of course if the government doesn't approve the changes that VW is proposing for our car...they might be buying it back from us...so who knows. Likely would be a shootout between the newest Q7 and the Volvo.

Joined the forum, wow those Mazda fans are hardcore (lots of owners installing catch cans and proposing performance mods...For a 3 row crossover!!??)

We were looking at the same Pilot (Touring AWD 9 speed) and I kept reading negative things about the transmission (it didn't feel that bad during test drives but I hate the push button shifter.) The fact that Honda will no longer source from ZF next year told me to stay away...

Brother in law just got a new Q7 (Prestige with adaptive chassis) and that thing drives niiiiice! Air suspension is a dream (only car I've ever experienced with that setup) and the 4 wheel steering takes some getting used to but makes cornering a breeze. Wish Mazda's SkyActiveG could do the same!
