Looking for a personal credit card.. What do you have?

Looking for a credit card (personal) that will be paid off most every month. Not any really big purchases, just for times when I don't want to take from my checking account.

We're talking bills under $500..

What is your APR?

Extended warranties would be nice, as would be no-fee of course..

The big names I've heard, Chase , Capital One, Citibank of course. Anyone else I should check into?

I got approved for the Chase flexible credit card with 5k limit. I am a college student and this is my first card. Got No Interested on all purchases for 18 months. Later on its 9.99% but I might switch after that.
It does have Free double the manufacturer's warranty plus you can buy exteneded warranties from Visa for cheap.. Plus rewards and more benefits..

Capital One and Chase Visa cards here, no annual fees. Very happy with Capital One. Interest rates are 9.9% and 8.9% respectively (Chase account is new).

Citi Divident Platinum Select. 5% cash back on gas, groceries, and drugstores, 1% on everything else.

APR? I don't know off the top of my head, because I pay off my balance in full every month. APR doesn't really matter unless you're dumb about it, and if you are, they're ALL ridiculously high.

Not anymore, starting in Oct. I believe it's going down to 3%. Still not bad.

ok good dumb question here... Difference between the Chase Visa and Chase Mastercard? Meaning the visa/mc part.. aren't they accepted pretty much equally?

Does the mastercard have the Free extended warranty service? Also with the visa, you can buy warranties for cheap directly through them..

October 16th I think. Yeah, and it's going to 2%

Looks like the capital one does, not sure about the others.

is it drugstores for prescriptions and drs offices too? considering i spend $7000+/yr on medical - prescriptions, drs visits, etc this would be nice.

Do you want rewards or low APR?

APR is meaningless is you pay off your bill in full every month.

The Amex Blue Cash is probably one of the best cash back cards left standing that isn't expected to have its program cut soon. HSBC and a few other less known banks still have 5% cards, but I don't expect them to last. Amex also isn't accepted everywhere. Visa basically equals Mastercard, but I have heard of one or two places (in my whole life) that would only take visa.

DO NOT GET THE CITI DIVIDEND PLATINUM. That card will SUCK effectve 2 weeks from now.

Oh, and fatwallet offers like $15 or $25 cash back if you get accepted for an amex through them

This is a way better deal if you're on that level of income. Under your first $6500 of annual spending, its 1.5%, and after that, it's 5%. For non gas/grocery/drugstore purchaces, it's 0.5%, jumping to 1.5%. If you spend a minimum of 13k on your CC a year, this card is pretty unbeatable IMHO. It can still beat other cards with less annual spending if you spend more in the premium categories.

i will have to look into that. do you know if sams and/or costco take amex? unfortunately i don't think spending $13K/yr is a problem for us for the bare essentials considering the medical...

Cosco has its own amex. I don't know the details, but you should look at that too.

thanks, will do 🙂

I have a Citi Student Platinum Dividend card and AFAIK, my card is going to remain at 5% for gas/groceries/drugs since I haven't received a letter yet (and my account is kind of young, <3 months old). Also, I think the APY is around 18%, but I don't carry a balance, so I don't worry about it.

You're welcome but I can't take credit for it as I didn't recommend it first 🙂

I love my CostCo Amex because of no annual fee, doubles as my CostCo membership card, free 1 year extended warranty and 90 day return policy.

Best of all 3% for eating at restaurants including fast food and casual dining.

This is the card you want

Yes there is a very small (maybe 1"x1") CostCo logo on the back bottom next to your CostCo membership account number.
