what's the app in the screen shot above me? I'd like to see what's using the most battery on my Droid 1. Ever since I've installed the CM7 RC my battery life has been really sporadic. One day it'll drop from 90 to 60 after about 4 hours without even any use. The next it will be on all day with no use and only drop to 80.

Well, I'd rather go 68 hours with a 3Mbps connection and actually use it for something rather than sitting on a 18Mbps connection without doing anything.

Proves my point. The phone obviously didn't do much of anything at all.

That first statement makes absolutely no sense given the context.

As for your second point, you have no idea how I used my phone so how can you say I did nothing at all? My point is that battery life is subjective and totally depends on what you do, for you to say that it's bullshit that people's phones last longer than a day is erroneous, it's also erroneous to assume you have any clue what I do with my device. It's that simple. Furthermore, Eclair had a bug in the cell standby code causing it to report much higher in the list and thus skewing the rest of the results. I would grab a more current Android battery usage screencap of my TB for you but it'd be a matter of time before you found some way to explain that away too.

edit: confused you with the user I posted the screenshot for, apologies. Either way, what metric would satisfy you?

That screen has been replaced by a much better graphing system in CM. The poster below you is correct though, you can pull that info up following that trail. Another helpful tool to locate apps keeping your phone in partial wake lock (leading cause of phantom battery drop), download Spare Parts and check out the partial wake lock pulldown.

Haha, if someone uses their phone heavily, or even medium use, display should be #1. Not cell standby.

Looks like that phone was basically in pocket the whole time.

Maybe it is possible for a phone to go longer than a day without a charge. Maybe even two or three days! But why does that matter? When would there ever be a case where you would not be able to charge your phone for two days? I charge mine every night, so as long as it makes it through the day, then I'm good. My problem is that it usually doesn't lol

Agree completely. To me, a smartphone has acceptable battery life if you can use it as much as you want during the day but starts to run out by the end of the day(without actually running out before you get the chance to charge it). People need to stop expecting a smartphone with a hundred times the processing power of a dumb phone to have the same battery life as a dumb phone. There is nothing unreasonable what so ever about charging a phone over night while you sleep.

Agreed, I have no problem charging my phone every day. I guess my point in this thread was that it pisses me off when people make blanket statements that a phone can't last a whole day that don't even own it. I also wanted to illustrate you could have much more than stock by modifying it, but yeah, it doesn't even matter.

Does the thunderbolt not have an automatic sensor that changes the brightness of the screen automatically based on your surroundings? Is this feature included in any android phones?

the TB does have an auto brightness checkbox, so does my droidX. my daughters optimus does not have that option. i changed the TB to auto, mine has been auto since i got it and my daughter leaves hers at the dimmest setting.

humm the app taking the most battery on my phone's Launcher Pro, is this normal? It's not a lot, only 7%. But I really only use my my phone a bit here and there.

7% isn't much. Do you use the LPP widgets? It's prob one of those. If not blame the dev for not forking his product and generally not giving a shit about his userbase. His launcher when it first came out was a thing of beauty and slowly, like most apps, has bloated up and become a shadow of its former self. Unfortunately it's still better than ADW so I put up with it.

If you need a long lasting phone, you don't need a smartphone ;) When I build my disaster kit, in it will be a cheap Nokia pre-paid phone that can send texts, along with spare batteries. The one I looked at, which I don't recall the model # of, has a battery life of like a week, haha!

You guys that say the phone above was probably in his pocket maybe correct, but you do realize that you can use a phone with the screen off don't you? When you speak the phone can be off, and when you listen to or stream music the screen can be off. That is how I use it and how I tend to maximize battery life. Turning your screen off when not using it will definitely help out.

I don't have a problem if my phone lasts a work day, but sometimes it doesn't. For me it has to last from 8am to 10pm, I dont want to be bothered with having my phone tethered to a wall to charge. When I had my EVO it lasted from 8 to 2pm I think, which isnt enough for me.

My iPhone4 on the other hand can last till 8pm or so, which is alot better, but I'd still like to reach 10pm and not worry about a charger until I go to bed.
