This is why I dont post in these threads. There are always idiots that have no clue what they are talking about posting in these yelling "SONY WEGA, SONY WEGA!!!!"

Sonys are a piece of crap. They have the worst repair history ever. They are overpriced.

If you want a good set look at the new line of the Samsung DLP sets. They have an awesome picture and are not too expensive.

Please let us know what price range you want to be in. And PM myself or one of the other members who actually know what we are talking about. I sell TVs for a living.

EDIT:

The new sammy plasma sets are very nice too. They have an EDTV 42" that retails around $3k. They improved the picture a lot on their EDTV sets this year. They are nearly as clear as the HD sets.

this man speaks the truth about sonys. While i enjoy their picture quality and NTSC accuracy, they just plan blow on reliability, and they are pricy compared to other manufacturers. ( I have an 32XBR400, has convergence probs [on a CRT of all things] and slightly blue spot on right. Has been service three times before a real sony regional tech came out and serviced it, still didn't make it right. Sony will sell you a TV and forget you as a customer as far as customer support is concerned as soon as its in your hands.)

motherfvcker. as i work in the home theater department at best buy, the same fvcking question over and over again. Do you know what it feels like to have soccer moms come up to you all day and ask"Whats HDTV plasmer dpl?" Well anyway-depending on budget and such,
if you want a projection, go for the new mitsu's. I really like them, considering I have a sony xbr projo at home. Obviously you want 16:9, so if you get a plasma, go with a name brand, and if you have the $ get an HD plasma-pioneer is nice. Yes, as ever bloody person says, get the Samsung DLP. I like the Sony Grand Wega, but since its an LCD projection, colors look a little cartoony. Heres the diff between the Sony LCD Projection (Grand Wega) and the Samsung DLP, and this comes from a good friend of mine, so I must quote:
"The Sonys look cartoony, but they are a nice TV overall. However the Samsung is simply superior. To sum it up, when you look at the Sony you feel like you're looking at a TV. When you look at the Samsung, the definition is so clear, and the colors are so natural that it looks like you're looking through a pane of glass, not just a TV."
Also wait out for a couple of weeks, as the "newer"(not completely new, as many may lead you to believe) DLP comes out (the one that is on the pedestal.) The newer samsung dlp has 3000:1 contrast ratio, as the current has 1500:1. If you need any other help with TVs, or anybody else does, just post or PM. Welcome to my world.

costco is selling the phillips cineos LCOS, picture looked real good. I thought it looked better than the sammy DLP they had (not sure if it was last years sammy or this years HLPs) The price was $2500.

thats why LCOS is at costco. the picture is great, but do you think they'll be any support for it in 5 years. DLP has finally caught on, so you can PM everyone now. Oh-you can wait till holiday cuz DLP will now be only 4 inches thick so it can be mounted on the wall.

The HL-P5085W and HL-P5685W's are already out. In fact, some Best Buy's already have the 5085's.

BTW, which model samsung DLP are you talking about with 3000:1 contrast? I have yet to hear of them.

The HLP Captain Kurk's are rated at 2500:1. The upcoming xHD3 have 5000:1. The HD3 HLP's have 1500:1.

If you're not in hurry, you might as well wait a year or so.
Samsung recently started running some massive LCD factories and price of LCD TVs should drop soon.

yeah...I see it now. I always start by calling people a motherfvcker when I am trying to help them. So lets disect the rest of your post and see how helpful that was.

1. if you want a projection, go for the new mitsu's. I really like them, considering I have a sony xbr projo at home. he should get a mitsubishi because you have an xbr? The new mitsus are nice, but so are the new toshibas and hitachis. The only mits I would think about getting this year would be their new microdisplay set. But that is very new, and will come down in price as the year goes on.

2. Obviously you want 16:9, so if you get a plasma, go with a name brand, and if you have the $ get an HD plasma-pioneer is nice. I challenge you to find a current (non sam's club, costco) set above 40 inches that is not widescreen. For your money the samsung plasmas are much better than the pioneers, and you can get a good deal on the samsungs.

3. Yes, as ever bloody person says, get the Samsung DLP. The new one or the old? The one with the built in stand or the tabletop one????

4. "The Sonys look cartoony, but they are a nice TV overall. However the Samsung is simply superior. To sum it up, when you look at the Sony you feel like you're looking at a TV. When you look at the Samsung, the definition is so clear, and the colors are so natural that it looks like you're looking through a pane of glass, not just a TV." Whothewhat???? The sony does not look cartoony. There are tons of differences between dlp and lcd projection. The main difference is the samsung has the dnie technology that really helps to smooth the images out. Watch a swimming event, or football game on the two sets side by side. The samsung will not have any lag or pixilization and the sony will. Also DLP is a little more dependable. You dont want to have to replace an lcd panel. Worst case scenario on a DLP you will have to replace the lamp and maybe the color wheel.

5. These are already out. We have them on our floor. And it does not have a 3000:1 contrast ration, its 2500:1.

You may now go back to your Worstbuy school of crappy training. Some of us real salesman actually take the time to learn the facts, features and benefits of our products.
