It's been on my list for a long time but I always hear a 50/50 mix of good and bad comments about it.

Think i'll give it a try soon.

Heard good things about Grimm though...

Watched one episode of Grimm this weekend. Honestly I thought it was disgusting and absolutely terrible. I'm usually into that sort of thing too.

Rome is about as close as you are going to get.

You'll have to settle for something good, but different. If you want a period drama, Mad Men and Downton Abbey are both good.

I've recommended Shameless to at least 10 people in the past year - all of them have loved it. In my opinion, it's the best show on television right now.

I recently discovered Shamless thanks to this thread. I'm on season 1 episode 4 or 5, so far it's great.

I wouldn't call it the best show on TV but well within the top 10.

Breaking Bad or White Collar > *

Breaking Bad, The Wire, Six Feet Under, The Shield, Dexter, Homeland, Game of Thrones, 24, Deadwood, Californication, Entourage, Prison Break, Playmakers, Walking Dead, Nip/Tuck, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, American Horror Story

Homeland is without a doubt one of the best TV shows of last season.

I hope seasons 2+ don't suck.

Really??

I got so bored with that show that I quit watching it...

Breaking Bad is really good though.

I love the writing, acting and the bromance between the two lead characters. It just works.

Suits is another personal favorite. Not at the same level as Shameless but great for non-premium cable.

Hey! Watched and loved Spartacus, Game of Thrones, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead and the like.

I'm looking for another series in the likes of Spartacus and Game of Thrones. Anything about vikings, medieval, fantastic would be what i'd be in the mood to watch.

Anyone of you have something to recommend?

Pillars of the Earth mini series. You can find it on Netflix.

I recommended this earlier as well, but after checking, it looks like Netflix no longer has it. I'm sure it is one of the great shows they lost with their failure to renew the Starz contract.

Rome is excellent, and probably the closest thing to Spartacus you will find.

I also enjoyed Pillars of the Earth from Starz, which used to be available on Netflix streaming (not sure if it's still there.)

I haven't seen Camelot yet, but I plan to check it out. And I've also heard The Borgias is decent, and I plan to watch that eventually as well.

I watched the first 6 eps of Pillars of the Earth last night, and its pretty good. I just wanted to watch the first one, but didnt stop watching them till 2AM. I'm hoping everyone gets their come uppins, but being historical its not guaranteed, and I dont want to cheat by looking it up.

Boardwalk Empire.

I watched every episode of The Wire earlier this year after reading one of these types of threads, real good show. Season 2 in my opinion was pretty terrible and almost made me quit watching but season 1 was great, 3, and 4 was fantastic and 5 was ok.

Wasn't there one about one of the British kings by either HBO or Showtime that would be similar?

Oh I remember now: Tudors.

Rome is very very good--the only problem is that it is cut short due to cancellation (ridiculously expensive production), so the end is a bit hashed together--although not completely unsatisfying.

Did you mention Deadwood? You must see Deadwood. Same problem with being canceled too soon, though

I haven't yet seen The Borgias, but I imagine it's pretty decent. I agree with everything, though

I didn't get too far into Camelot before Starz jumped ship from NFLX streaming, but perpetually naked Eva Green is always a good thing. I do like the twists they take with the legend, though: trying to make it as "real" as possible, though there is still quite obviously a lot of magic and fantasy involved. The bit on Excaliber is freaking awesome, if you ask me.
