Interesting, $480 for a Toro Super Recycler Lawn Mower - 20054 Personal Pace and Free shipping. I don?t have any experience with them but that?s a good price. If you opt for the shipping insurance policy for $12.50 your at $493. I would take that price to a local B&M too see how close they would come. If they agree to something like $525 I?d get it from them. Nothing beats local servise.

I'm thinking about the 20055 since that comes with a bag. Do you think for another 100 it'd be worth it to get the 20056 with the blade override, or for 150 more to get that other motor that has the OHV on the 20057. Yeah, I'd prefer to buy locally, I'll have to call around and see what the prices are like. Last year it looks like they had a 75 dollar rebate on these, sucks they don't have that now.

Know anyone who is a member of CostCo?

I saw a Honda self propelled for $350-ish.

Blade override is nice but you have to decide if it's worth the extra 100. The OHV is more for the professional that runs 5 days /week not us weekend warriers. OMHO it never hurts to ask for a discount. If they can't do that ask for a spare blade or extra oil. Tactfully tell them you are also looking at a John Deer and you need a tie breaker ;)

Things I would like is for it to be able to mow down to 1", be self propelled, larger rear wheels, a good strong engine, be able to bag clippings. That's about it that I can think of. Regarding the rear bagging, I would like one that sturdy, my last two rear bagger mowers had pretty sh1tty design where the welds would break due to the weight of the clipping. I'm looking to spend less than $500.

Any ideas?

Less than $500 should buy a heck of a lawn mower. At that budget I would look at Snappers or the higher grade over chain store brands. Most of the time it's the mechanicals and chassis that fail as almost everything uses the same motors these days.

I am going to a 20" Scott's Reel mower for my next house (close 6/4/07). I used to have 1/2 acre and used a fast self propelled mower....it was noisy and I usually ended up smelling like gas all day.

The benefit too is a bit of exercise. I work a mostly deskjob and workout during the week. I shouldn't need something to drag me around a standard lot until I am a bit older.

Went to the local ACE today and got a toro 20055. Mowed the yard today and it seems to have done a good job. the personal pace self-propel is easy to work with, didn't have any issues like eos has. Looking forward to using it again soon, I wonder how long that feeling will last.

I'm glad I know how to fix stuff. I bought my lawn boy for $25 off of craigslist and put a carb kit in it. Works and looks brand new. People are dumb and don't put stabil in their mowers making them not start and they sell them for cheap.

I'm a lawnboy fan all the way, especially their 2 strokers (which ar no longer available new)

I have 2 hondsa in my garge right now, a 215 and a 216, both with stripped transmissions. Honda makes a good mower, but the transmissions leave something to be desired. When you need to fix it, you cant just buy a new spur gear either. You have to get an entirely new transmission for them.

The engines run smooth as silk though.

My current mower is a lawnboy 10518 mower. 5.5 hp, 2 stroke, can mulch 3-4 inch wet grass and barely break a sweat and bags very very well as well. its a 3 speed.

My other mower is a lawnboy 8246? i think. .electric start, capstan drive system. I like it a lot also

My finish mower is a lawnboy 5223, circa 1962. Runs great still starts first or 2nd pull.
