I have been on the same cable/internet company for a while and have recently decided that I am going to get rid of cable and just go through netflix and the xbox 360. I want to see if I can get some faster internet also. I currently have 2mb/s for $19.99 a month. I have a friend that lives about an hour and a half away and is getting 6mb/s for like $35 a month. I am not really sure where to even start doing research to find different internet companies. Most people in my city just go with Suddenlink because they have internet and cable for $60/month. Any websites that have listings of what all is available in your area or anything?

Thanks for any help

dslreports is a decent place to start, but only if you can wade through the crap.

Nah - stick to Comcast, you'll be fine.

LOL! I see what you did there.

OP - if you really want to do your own work look up your local PUC, they'll tell you what's up.

Agreed, might be a little more expensive but worth it. I recently moved and switched to AT&T to save a little bit, biggest mistake ever. Its not as fast, I've had nothing but trouble on my line since I got it a month ago and trying to get help from them on the phone is a hell I wouldnt put my worst enemy through.

Sorry comcast is one company I refuse to deal with after hearing about the bittorrent throttling and everything. I am looking at Roadrunner, don't know much about them. It looks like I can get 7.0mb/s for $35.95, or 15.0mb/s for $49.95.

Idiot.

-edit-
What I mean to say is you didn't hear anything, you read it on the intarweb.

See edit.

You are basing your opinion on what you read on the intarweb vs. an unknown that you haven't read about on the intarweb.

Go to dslreports.com and trudge through the crap, given that that is also what you read on the intarweb. What is best for your needs depends on where you are at and what you need and what you are willing to pay.

I already urged you to do the work and contact your PUC.
